Happy New Year! Hooray – 2020 is over and we’re moving into a brand new year.
Capricorn Time
In the northern hemisphere, this is the quiet time of year. Up until the 19th, the Sun is in Capricorn and the most hidden sector of your horoscope. You may favour quiet time now. Or, at least, some moments of peace and solitude.
When the Sun is in Capricorn, this turns your attention inward. It’s your inner world that thrives and where you can sort things out. You might be coming to terms with a personal issue or realise the toll that 2020 has had upon you.
January is the ideal month to decide what stays and what goes, what you let go and where you make progress.
This is especially true this month as Pluto, the planet of endings and transformation, teams up with the faster-moving planets throughout January. Pluto encounters talk planet Mercury on the 5th, the Sun on the 14th and the planet of relating Venus on the 28th.
Therefore, before you leap into 2021 and start afresh, it’s wise to take stock and look at what you’re ready to close the door on. Complete the year that’s gone properly before you step into what’s new.
This is the theme of the New Moon in Capricorn on the 13th. Traditionally, a New Moon is a symbol of new beginnings but as this New Moon aligns with Pluto, new beginnings can only grow out of an ending.
So, the advice is to do the inner work and let go because there’s a lot to be hopeful for and to focus on moving forwards.
Aquarius Time
Aquarius is the star sign of the year and it begins now. On the 8th, communication planet Mercury moves into Aquarius followed by the Sun on the 19th and the start of your birthday month.
This turns your focus towards yourself and your personal goals and aims. It’s about you out in the world, where you’re heading and why. Plus, you have two key planets backing you.
Your traditional ruler Saturn is in Aquarius, helping you plan and think long-term. And, lucky planet Jupiter is in Aquarius, reminding you to hold on to hope and faith.
Jupiter is especially active in the first few months of the year and this will give you a flavour of what’s to come. Jupiter encounters Mercury on the 11th and the Sun on the 29th. Look out for new opportunities or news on or around these dates as Jupiter represents expansion and growth.
Your star sign Aquarius is linked to modern technology so you may find your voice online. Alternatively, you could decide to play your part within society, politics or the collective.

Freedom & Action
Your modern ruler Uranus is also involved in the planetary action, especially on the 17th when there’s a Jupiter-Uranus square aspect. This combination promises freedom and this could be a direct response to restrictions or feeling held back.
