What Does The Aries/Libra Eclipse Mean For You?

21st March 2016 By Sally Kirkman 26 Comments

love, lunar eclipse

This eclipse article was originally written in October 2013 at the beginning of the current Aries/Libra eclipse cycle.

It’s been updated and is relevant for you today as the next lunar or Full Moon eclipse at 3 degrees Aries/Libra draws ever closer, exact on Wednesday 23rd March 2016 [12:01 GMT].

A powerful eclipse cycle comes to an end this week which has highlighted the signs of Aries and Libra. Wednesday 23rd March 21016 is the final eclipse in this set of eclipses which began in October 2013.

If you have planets or angles in Aries or Libra and one of the eclipses falls within 1-2 degrees of 3 degrees 17 Aries/Libra, then more likely than not change is on the way or at least a chance to reorient yourself.

To understand eclipses, the language and symbolism of the eclipse can act as a guide. When the lights, the Sun and Moon, are ‘eclipsed’, we are in the dark and events are hidden and shadowy. Secrets emerge and what’s unknown comes to light.

As an eclipse involves three bodies, the Sun, the Moon and the Earth, this may represent a ‘triangle’ situation in your life where one person loses out allowing another person to take advantage. At an eclipse, often one door has to shut before a new door can be opened.

You v. Them/Balancing The Scales

The relationship theme is especially prevalent with this set of eclipses focusing on Aries ruling the self and Libra ruling relationships. It’s you versus them and the challenge may be how you keep your own identity when you’re in relationship to others either personally or professionally.

Intimate relationships are often the trickiest to negotiate especially when your marriage or connection lasts for years. You can see more closely the balance of the scales (Libra’s zodiac symbol) as they swing up and down, at times perfectly aligned but more often than not, out of sync with each other even if only slightly.

A relationship based on equality, the ‘two peas in a pod’ scenario may be the perfect goal but the deeper learning about yourself comes from seeing and understanding yourself in relation to others. When you dive deep into love or another key partnership in your life you hold up a mirror revealing who you really are.

Eclipse Data

Here are the dates and degrees of the Aries/Libra eclipse cycle:

  • October 18 2013 – Lunar Eclipse [25 Aries 45]
  • April 15 2014 – Lunar Eclipse [25 Libra 16]
  • October 8 2014 – Lunar Eclipse [15 Aries 05]
  • April 4 2015 – Lunar Eclipse [14 Libra 24]
  • September 28 2015 – Lunar Eclipse [4 Aries 40]
  • March 23 2016 – Lunar Eclipse [3 Libra 17]

What’s immediately noticeable is that all these eclipses are lunar or Full Moon eclipses. This fits with the Libran symbolism as the Full Moon is an opposition and naturally highlights relationships in your life.

Plus this final eclipse mirrors the lunar eclipse which took place on September 28th 2015. Think back to that date to see what events were arising.

Relationship v. Ego

This set of eclipses also falls in pairs, one in the autumn and one in the spring at a similar degree. So maybe there was more than one chance to get things right or develop a greater understanding.

Apologising does not always mean that you’re wrong and the other person is right. It just means that you value your relationship more than your ego.

Many people, myself included, have learnt about a relating over the last few years. How to stay true to who you are whilst at the same time honouring and nurturing your relationships. There are inevitably times when you fail and get it wrong and other times when you are successful and get it right.

It’s worth remembering that a relationship is a product of two people together and sometimes you have little or no say over what the other person says or does. The decisions you make when a relationship’s not working out are just as important as the ones you make when a relationship’s going well.

The Houses/The Areas of Life

Aries and Libra symbolism focuses on relationships for everyone but these two signs also rule specific areas of your life. Here’s a quick reminder. Read both your Sun Sign and your Ascendant for the complete picture:

  • Aries: Personal goals & self care v. relationships & one-on-one partnership
  • Taurus: Retreat & recuperation v. work, service, health & fitness
  • Gemini: Friends, groups & networks v. self-expression, creativity, children & love affairs
  • Cancer: Career & vocation v. home & family
  • Leo: Travel & exploration v. busyness close to home, neighbours & siblings
  • Virgo: Other peoples’ money & joint resources v. personal possessions & values
  • Libra: Relationships & one-on-one partnership v. personal goals & self care
  • Scorpio: Work, service, health & fitness v. retreat & recuperation
  • Sagittarius: Self-expression, creativity, children & love affairs v. friends, groups & networks
  • Capricorn: Home & family v. career & vocation
  • Aquarius: Busyness close to home, neighbours & siblings v. travel & exploration
  • Pisces: Personal possessions & values v. other peoples’ money & joint resources

hi Neha, I can’t give you any definites without looking at both your charts in-depth. Sun Libra, Sun Cancer – once Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th 2016, this is their time to be free, to expand their world whereas Sun Cancer wants to focus on home and family. From a solar perspective, you might find your needs are different in the coming year. Hope that helps a little and take care.

hi Daisy, sorry you haven’t found a new job yet. This week’s New Moon in Aries is brilliant for you – it falls on April 7th. If there’s anything you can do to chase up work, search online, learn new skills, apply for work, do it from the 7th-9th April. Good luck! best, Sally

    Dear Sally,

Thanks for publishing the article on Eclipses with such a positive perspective. From my own life, I tend to agree that the best things have come by accepting and stepping out into the unknown, albeit with plenty of apprehensiveness. My DoB is 21-Jan-1970 and the last 7 yrs. since 2009 to-date have been tumultuous, esp. on my career front, to say the least. Nevertheless, I remain an eternal optimist, with the perspective that, from where I stand, it can only get better. Would be thankful if you could spare a few moments and share your thoughts about what lies in future for me, going ahead.

    Regards, Ray.

Thanks Ray. You’re a Sun Aquarius but you have a lot of planets in Capricorn so it’s not surprising that career has been tricky since 2009. The Uranus-Pluto square which was major if you have key planets/angles in Aries or Capricorn was starting to kick in back then. It is theoretically over but they are still close in the heavens so you have a way to go yet I would imagine. All you can do with this duo is reinvent yourself – the best advice is out with the old and in with the new. Being an Aquarius you can do that – use technology too to help you. July is your top month to push ahead and any efforts from earlier in the year will begin to pay off. Hope that helps. best wishes, Sally.

Hi Sally – I wrote the comment that started off the thread last September, and I just thought I would let you know what’s happened since then. Two days after I posted, I had a job interview, and I returned home from Spain to be offered the job! It’s only a 12-month contract, but apart from a couple of difficulties that appear to have resolved themselves, I am really enjoying myself and am doing something really worthwhile, putting together a university outreach project for disadvantaged kids (very fitting considering my Virgoan North Node!) My mum also just celebrated her 90th birthday in mid-February as well!

I just hope that this latest eclipse is as positive! I also wanted to say to your last commenter, Divya, that things can and will get better, and to send her all the best for the future.

    Dear Sally,

Reading your article on Lunar Eclipse on 23rd March, 2016 makes me optimistic about and hope changes are positive than negative as I have had enough of negatives.

My sun sign in Libra and on 21 September 2015, I lost my brother whose ascendant was in Libra. He was my only sibling, best friend and confidante and losing him is devastating. Since my Saturn period of 7.5 years started in 2009, I have lost in relationships …my boyfriend dumped me and I have been single since then, my mother became very sick in the beginning of 2010 and is still home bound and then I lost my only brother in 2015.

I am working hard to make a living and taking care of my parents but life seems such a drag and burden. all my friends are married and they seem to enjoy life whereas I can’t look beyond a day as it seems so daunting.

hi Divya, I was so sorry to read of the devastating loss of your brother and the difficulties you’ve been experiencing. I hope that life takes care of you and you can start to experience some of the joy and happiness that you deserve. It feels as if this current eclipse is a chance to put the bad times behind you. Sending you very best wishes, Sally

    Hi Sally,

My birth date is 10th Jan 1983. I feel that my career is stuck in a rut for a little over 2 years now. All my hard work is yet to pay any dividends. I hope this March eclipse will bring about something positive 🙂

And yeah! I look forward to your tennis predictions for the French Open in May! Woohoo!

Hi tennisbuf, I think the eclipse will be the end of the difficult period for your career. The Libra eclipses are important for you because Libra rules your career/vocation. They began in October 2013. Better news is the fact that you have Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, entering Libra and your career sector in September 2016 where it remains for 13 months. So that’s definitely positive for you. Until then, discard what’s not working out and start afresh 🙂 Hope that helps. best, Sally

This is a brilliant article! Thankyou. I have Pluto in Libra at 2 degrees in my 3rd house. What I found particularly interesting in your article was the triangular situation – I had exactly this experience of being eclipsed back in october 2013. The same person has recently reappeared in my life (albeit still long distance) and it looks like we will be back at the same point come this eclipse. Also, 19 years ago on this eclipse, I met my first husband. Interesting. A really great look at the eclipses here – thankyou.

One more eclipse to go on Wednesday 23rd March. I’ll be reposting this article early next week as a reminder for everyone. Kind regards, Sally

    Sally,

Enjoy your blogs. Eclipses are” turning points” you said above. That seems to be right. Maybe not an event per say, but a turning point or course change at that time.

Will the March 2016 eclipses be connected in a big way to the September ones? Moon was at 4 Aries; in March Moon will be at 3 Libra.

Hi Sally, my birth date is 27-Sep. I felt the effects of April eclipse to a great degree but things were somehow sorted out in some way. But this September eclipse has really taken my life away. My partner says he doesn’t feel any connection with me and cause of this I am really feeling torn and devastated. I am not sure should I still try harder to make things work or just simply let go, considering it my destiny. Also, I want to know is March 2016 eclipse again going to test relationship in my life or it can be some other area and how strong would be the intensity. Your response would be really appreciated. Thank you so much. I am in too much grief at the moment; feels like my world has ended.

Dear Megan, I’m so sorry to hear what has happened and please take good care of yourself. It is very painful for you as a Libra when relationships go wrong. The eclipse in March falls at a similar degree in the zodiac so it is again highlighting your Sun in Libra. The Sun is you, your vitality, how you shine in life. Put yourself first right now and use this experience to look at yourself and how to care for you. Eclipses are turning points, they don’t determine one outcome or the other so the March eclipse might coincide with another stage in a relationship or it might open up a new path for you as an individual. Most important is to focus on who you are whether in or out of a relationship. It’s painful learning but hopefully you will have support and strength to get you through this. Sending best wishes, Sally

Hi, I was born with the moon in Libra and sun in Aries. Full moon actually. I feel this eclipse placement is significant to me. Also, the eclipse that occurred in April in Libra was a very intense time in my life in which I felt a sense of re-assessment / rebirth. Thanks for your posts- i really love to read them!

Really interesting Sally and thank you as always for the insight and food for thought . After three very heavy years of Saturn in my second house and the attendant work difficulties (ie redundancy and infrequent employment), things do seem to be moving, finally. Your comment above re Aquarians is apposite, as I am deliberating whether I ought to move abroad and am off on Tuesday with my son to see relatives in Spain. The thing that makes me hesitate is family here (my mum is nearly 90 and still going strong) and it’s been a constant throughout my life – abroad v UK… During our trip we’re investigating the possibilities of moving out there (I’m a languages teacher so Spanish is not an obstacle). My ascendant is at 3 Libra 33, so I assume this could be another “push” in hopefully the right direction for my life!

hi Rachel, thank you for your comment and yes, the eclipse evokes the theme of change for you cutting across your Ascendant/Descendant axis. Note too that there’s a second lunar eclipse at the same degrees next March (23rd March 2016) so this whole six month period is important for you. Have a great time in Spain and see what you’re thinking/feeling about a move on Wednesday of this week. best, Sally
