Please note that due to personal reasons this month’s horoscopes are shorter than usual. I will hopefully be able to extend them later in January if all goes well. Here’s wishing you a very Happy New Year.

New Moon [12 Capricorn 20] – January 2nd (18:33 GMT)
Full Moon [27 Cancer 51] – January 17th (23:48 GMT)
Your ruling planet Venus remains retrograde throughout most of January, until the 29th. Often, this means you’re dealing with delays or you feel frustrated or undervalued.
Think of this period as a time to meander through life rather than make key decisions. You might have to go backwards before you go forwards. Or, perhaps you’re waiting on other people to make key decisions in your life.
Venus is in retreat in Capricorn, a fellow earth sign, so this is a good time for studying, learning or academic pursuits. Retrograde planets turn your attention inwards. Capricorn fires up the sector of your horoscope that rules philosophy, education, travel, spirituality, religion and the law.
You may be gathering information or doing research to help you over the next few weeks and months. Ideally, wait until the 29th before making any major decisions around these key areas.
There is another important factor, however, that adds an extra dimension to this month’s astrology. This is the fact that communication planet Mercury turns retrograde in on the 14th and remains on go slow until February 4th. Mercury enters Aquarius and your career and vocation sector on the 2nd and it’s here where Mercury turns retrograde on the 14th.
Even if new opportunities arise this month, it may not be the best time to make a major decision. There’s too much flux and reverse motion. If you can, wait until early February before accepting an offer or finalising a job or career opportunity. You may discover that a job description changes substantially during the weeks ahead.
What Mercury retrograde is good for is retracing your steps or going over old ground. This flags up a theme of reconnecting or reworking your contacts or networks.
Keep the lines of communication open, be patient and get the right people on your side. Friends and connections could play a powerful role in your success moving forwards. Also, your partner could be in a strong position and able to support you.
– Finally, focus on finances while action planet Mars is strong in Sagittarius and this sector of your horoscope until the 24th. If you’re typical of your star sign, you favour financial and emotional security in your life. If you’re keen to travel or get abroad, there may be more than one turning point later this month.
Mars enters Capricorn on the 24th and two days later, Mercury retrogrades into Capricorn on the 26th. Events that come to an end on or around the Full Moon on the 17th could be the reason why you need to rethink your next steps.
