This is an important month as two of the four eclipses in 2014 take place now. There’s a Lunar or Full Moon eclipse on the 8th in the sign of Aries and a Solar or New Moon eclipse on the 23rd in the sign of Scorpio.
You are often more tuned in to the New and Full Moon phases than other signs of the zodiac as your sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The New Moon is for initiating, the start of a new phase, an energy that multiplies and grows and sends out new shoots. The Full Moon brings matters to a head and symbolises completion. Emotions are more powerful at the time of the Full Moon and it’s harder to contain what you feel.
An eclipse intensifies these important Moon phases as it links in to the karmic nodes. There can be a theme of something hidden coming to light, a moment of destiny that feels as if it’s pulling you in a certain direction and sometimes events beyond your control. The rug of life unfurls in front of you as you head off in a new direction.
The Lunar Eclipse on the 8th is especially powerful as it cuts across the Aries/Libra axis of your chart. The Moon in Aries opposes the Sun in Libra and these are the foundations of your chart: work v. home; future v. past; where you’re heading and where you’re coming from.
This by itself would be meaningful and suggest a chapter ending or a new chapter beginning whether you’re moving because of a change of job or you’re shifting your lifestyle dramatically to start a family, become a carer or work from home. The eclipse is made more powerful however as it links in to other planets in the chart. Venus in Libra sits next to the Sun opposite Uranus which is conjunct the Moon.
For some this is about changes in your partner’s life or current situation that affect you; a change of job, a reduction or rise in income or another external event that makes you stop and consider what next for you. This is part of the picture but a Grand dynamic fire trine completes it. Uranus (change) in Aries is trine to Jupiter (opportunity) in Leo and Mars (action) in Sagittarius.
This is go-getting and life-shaping whether you’re breaking free or breaking through. The focus is on work, career, money and a desire to follow your heart, be courageous, take risks, be free and do things differently. Notice who or what comes into your life on or around the 5th and 8th of the month when Mars swashbuckles his way through the fire trine. A hero? An adventure? It’s definitely a time to say Yes to life.
And yet whatever event or decision crashes in early in the month, it will take a while for you to be ready to embrace whatever new opportunity is offered. This is because of Mercury, the planet of communication, which is retrograde from the 4th-25th. Now is your time to reflect and, especially from the 10th-25th when Mercury returns to Libra, to talk things through with your family.
Lovely Venus is also in Libra up until the 23rd so playing happy families is high on your list of priorities or a you develop a keen eye for design and a desire to beautify your surroundings. The planets gathered round the base of your chart want you to feel comfortable and to stay safe and secure and yet, the fierce energy of the other more dynamic planets is calling you out to take a big leap.
Don’t let an exciting opportunity pass you by but do trust yourself with regard to timing. If you know it’s important to allow yourself a few weeks to remain settled and in a routine or for family to come to terms with current changes, then allow that to happen. Say Yes early in the month but if you can, delay your big move until Mercury picks up speed again on the 25th.
The Solar Eclipse takes place in your fellow water sign of Scorpio and as Venus enters Scorpio on the same day as the Sun and the Moon (the 23rd), this is a powerful feminine energy. Scorpio rules children in your chart, love affairs and your creativity. A wonderful trine to Neptune in Pisces is also powerful on the 27th and 28th and if you meet someone new or try and get pregnant in the last week of the month, miracles can happen.
This is both a sexy and a romantic energy and the more you tap into your intuitive feminine side (male or female), the happier and more fulfilled you will be. It’s also an indicator that the more you’re around powerful women in your life, the more inspired you are and it’s time to do more of whatever touches you deeply. Being a water sign, you have a rich depth of inspiration and creative source within you. Let out your inner poet, musician, artist, lover, mother and be your true authentic self.
The eclipses back up Mercury retrograde’s theme of bringing forth what’s hidden and new information coming to light but the pull of destiny is strong. Whether October brings shocks or surprises, at month’s end it’s highly likely that you’re going to be taking the first step in a new direction, ready or not.
