Aquarius (21 January – 18 February)
There are two powerful eclipses taking place this month. Eclipses often bring what’s hidden to light. Secrets or confidences might emerge now and you could be dealing with sensitive information.
Only take on what you can handle and, if you’re feeling especially sensitive, stay away from tragedy or news that makes you despair. Create an invisible boundary if necessary around you and nurture your spirit.
As January begins, the emphasis is on the star sign, Capricorn, and the most hidden sector of your horoscope. Other people might be charging into the new year at full pelt. Don’t worry if you want to take a more leisurely approach or deal primarily with the past before you focus on the future and what lies ahead.
The Solar or New Moon eclipse takes place in Capricorn on the 6th. This is an indication that it’s important to to look after yourself and prioritise your well-being. This is the theme of the new eclipse cycle which began in July 2018 and completes in July 2020.
This cuts across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac. It’s about service to others on the one hand, but also taking good care of yourself. Ensure you have plenty of sleep, eat well, rest and relax this month. If you find your mind running away with you or your emotions overwhelming, be in nature to ground yourself and bring you back down to earth.
This is an important month for you because it’s a time of endings and new beginnings. This in itself can prove unsettling especially if you feel that your foundations aren’t currently strong. This might be a month when you’re shedding what’s difficult or letting go of what’s no longer needed.
This may be linked to your work and routine, your lifestyle or your health. Most importantly, look at ways to eliminate stress. It won’t be easy if a job comes to an end now. With hindsight, however, you may see this is the turning point you need and a chance to start afresh.
Money is also under the cosmic spotlight this month, thanks to Neptune in Pisces. Neptune is strong on the 13th when it’s square to Jupiter and on the 31st when it is sextile to your ruling planet Saturn. Neptune is the planet of dreams but also confusion and illusion.
Pay close attention to money this month and consider more deeply what money means to you. Jupiter and Neptune are a boundless combination and both major planetary aspects dominate this year’s astrology.
You may choose to get involved in a charitable organisation and look at ways to use money to good effect. The more you give, the more you receive in return and it’s here where emotional fulfilment can be found. Be aware, however, that Neptune can be a seductive influence. Don’t let someone else take over your finances and only trust people you know well.
The Sun’s move into your star sign, Aquarius, on the 20th brings a sea-change. You’re out of the fog and into the light but, almost immediately, there’s a Lunar Eclipse cutting across the Leo/Aquarius axis of the zodiac.
This completes an eclipse cycle which began in August 2016. For you, this has been about love and relationships, partnership and connections. Some relationships may have fallen by the wayside and others may have transformed completely. You may even have met someone, fallen in love and got married within the last two and a half years.
This is an emotional Lunar Eclipse but ultimately it’s about freedom and breaking free from restriction. Your co-ruler Uranus is involved during both eclipses this month, which means you have the chance to speak up and embrace change.
The theme of this eclipse is ‘if you love someone, set them free’. Decide what this means in your own life and trust your natural instincts. Eclipses can coincide with an ultimatum, to commit or quit.
Other people are there for you throughout January and this is especially true of your friends, group interactions, your team or tribe. The planet of relating, Venus, is in Sagittarius and your friendship sector from the 7th where it joins expansive Jupiter. This planetary combination links friendship and love. If you’re looking to meet someone new, ask for an introduction or catch up with old friends.
The focus on the star sign, Sagittarius, is a reminder that being social, networking and making connections is where opportunity and growth lie. Whether you’re looking for people of like minds, you want to be more sociable or you need people in your life to lean on or ask for help and support, make strong connections.
The 22nd is an especially powerful date when Venus and Jupiter unite in Sagittarius. This feels lucky so use your friends to boost your influence and your good fortune. As this conjunction falls the day after an eclipse in your opposite star sign, Leo, a new relationship could start swiftly and light up your life.
A lot depends on how ready you are to get out in the world and meet new people. Action planet Mars leaps into Aries and your communication sector on the 1st, New Year’s Day where it remains for the next six weeks.
It’s here where there’s excitement and enthusiasm. Get out and about in your local neighbourhood, join in with community and collaborative ventures. Play your part in social, political or world events. Make a difference.
