Men’s Tennis US Open 2016

Screen Shot 2016-08-15 at 09.27.38

Update: As per usual, I’m writing post-tournament to reflect on the astrology. This wasn’t my best prediction as Stan ‘The Man’ Wawrinka won and I hadn’t even clocked that he had some decent astrology. For those of you who would like to check out his chart, his birth data is as follows: b. March 28 1985, 11:05 am, Lausanne, Switzerland. His best transit was Saturn at 10 Sagittarius almost exactly sextile his natal Jupiter at 10 Aquarius on the day of the final. Jupiter rules his Pisces Midheaven, so is linked to Β his career. Saturn by positive aspect to his career ruler consolidates his reputation; he’s played in only 3 Grand Slam finals but has won all of them, beating the no. 1 seed each time. Impressive! Plus Stan is a Sun Aries and a few of the players were boosted by helpful transits from the ‘athlete’ planet Mars strong in Sagittarius during the tournament. In my monthly newsletter, I mentioned that Mars Sagittarius would be helpful for Aries & Scorpios (ruled by Mars) and Sun Sagittarius.

On a personal note, my heart wasn’t in this prediction and I didn’t really have a personal favourite I wanted to win. Mercury is currently retrograde in Virgo and one of the work sectors of my chart, plus the Solar Eclipse on September 1st was conjunct my natal Pluto in Virgo also in my work sector, so there’s the symbolism for a ‘wrong’ prediction. I began writing these predictions when Roger Federer won Wimbledon in 2012 with textbook astrology, lucky Jupiter exactly conjunct his Midheaven. I am pondering whether to stop writing the tennis predictions when Roger stops playing Grand Slams. Either that or I might change the format next year to a closed Facebook group or similar. Certainly it feels as if it’s time for a change but I’ll give myself the winter to mull things over.

Thank you to all of you who continue to support these tennis/astrology articles, it really is a pleasure and to the critics, one word of advice, it’s easierΒ for feedback to be received if you at first make a positiveΒ acknowledgement, even if it’s to say ‘well done for trying’. I’m going to become an advocate for Jupiter in Libra over the coming year, just like the majority of tennis players who play fairly and congratulate one another on their achievements. Β ‘If life is a game, let’s play nicely’.

I’m starting my 2016 US Open tennis predictions with a mini boast about my prediction for the Olympics (see tweet above). At the start of the Olympics my hunch was that Andy Murray would defend the Olympic title he won in London 2012. He certainly did so here’s hoping my winning ways continue with the predictions for the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York which starts onΒ August 29th 2016.

Chart for the Tournament

The chart for the tournament is shown below for those of you who know your astrology. The Moon in Leo is strong conjunct a Leo Midheaven, the success point in the chart. The Moon makes three positive trine aspects to Saturn Sagittarius, Mars Sagittarius and Uranus Aries. Traditionally when the Moon does well, the favourite does well.

There are a host of planets in Virgo as the tournament begins and interesting astrology throughout the fortnight. Most importantly, communication planet Mercury turns retrograde at 29 Virgo 05 on August 30th and this isn’t always good news for Mercury-ruled signs, Gemini and Virgo. Mercury is the planet most closely linked to tennis. There’s a solar eclipse at 9 Virgo 21 on September 1st and eclipses often coincide with dramatic events. Also worth noting, success planet Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th. Jupiter spends approximately one year in each sign of the zodiac so the emphasis shifts from Virgo to Libra throughout the tournament.

The Players

There will be no Roger Federer at this Grand Slam as he’s in rehab following his knee injury. Astrologically, he still has Saturn square his Ascendant, a placing which can coincide with injury. The aspect is exact on September 22nd 2016 and will then slowly begin to move away. He’s right to take the rest of the year out if he can.

Novak Djokovic b. May 22 1987, 11:25 pm, Belgrade, Yugoslavia

Djokovic has had a year of extremes. His win at the French Open 2016 secured his place in the history books as he held all four Grand Slams at one time. In Wimbledon he was knocked out in the 3rd round by Sam Querrey and ended his Olympic quest in tears when del Potro beat him in the first round.

The major astrological factor for Djokovic has been Pluto conjunct his Ascendant throughout the year. It’s a slow-moving planet so takes its time. Djokovic’ Ascendant is 16 Capricorn and Pluto is currently retrograde at 15 Capricorn. When you have Pluto conjunct the Ascendant, it’s a time of transformation but not down the easy route. It can be difficult on a personal level. Here’s what Djokovic has now said about his unexpected Wimbledon defeat:

I am in a position, like everybody else, like all of you, we all have private issues and things that are more challenges than issues. More things that we have to encounter and overcome in order to evolve as a human being.Β That (Wimbledon) was a period for me. It happened right here. It was resolved and life is going on like everything else. It was some other injury I was going through privately and nothing linked to the wrist injury. Everything is fine. Life is going on.

This confirms the Pluto transit and that Djokovic was experiencing testing private and personal issues earlier in the year. It doesn’t sound as if his wrist injury is completely better either so not the best preparation for another Grand Slam win.

Djokovic does have Mars, the athletic planet, on his side as Mars in Sagittarius picks up his fiery natal Jupiter-Saturn trine aspect, exact the weekend of the final.

Andy Murray b. May 15 1987, 2:10 pm, Glasgow, UK

Andy Murray is playing his best tennis ever. He’s got to the finals of his last 7 tournaments and he won at both Wimbledon and the Olympics. The north node, the point of destiny, was exactly conjunct his Ascendant at 14 Virgo on August 5th, the day the Olympics began. The host of Virgo planets as the US Open begins can only boost his performance.

Murray is peaking at the age of 29, an important year in astrology as this also heralds the Saturn Return, the astrological coming of age. Born exactly one week before Djokovic, he too has Jupiter in Aries trine Saturn in Sagittarius, a fiery combination which helps you believe that with hard work anything is possible.

On the day of the final, Mars at 20 Sagittarius lights up Murray’s natal Moon/Saturn conjunction and triggers his natal Jupiter/Saturn trine. Murray knows how to win and as long as he repeats what he’s learned previously, his astrology looks strong. That’s the beauty of the Jupiter/Saturn trine.

Rafael Nadal, b. June 3 1986, 7:10 pm, Manacor, Spain

Action planet Mars at 12 Sagittarius is almost exactly opposite Nadal’s Sun Gemini as the tournament begins. Let’s hope this gives him a much-needed athletic boost and that it takes away from the difficulties he’s experienced with Saturn in his 1st house ruling the physical body and opposing his Sun which rules vitality. Saturn by opposition invariably slows you down and Nadal too comes into this US Open hoping a niggling wrist injury is fully recovered.

Nadal led Spain to victory as he won the men’s doubles at the Olympics earlier this year but he hasn’t reached the semi-final stage of a Grand Slam since winning the French Open in 2014.

Juan Martin del Potro b. September 23 1988, time unknown, Tandil, Argentina

There is no time of birth for del Potro and it would be very helpful to know right now. This is because his Sun is at 0 Libra and lucky planet Jupiter will be conjunct his Sun the day of the final, September 11th 2016. This planetary event happens once every 12 years so it’s a strong indicator of success.

Del Potro won the US Open title in 2009 beating Federer in the final to clinch victory. He’s back on form this year after being thwarted by injury over the last years. He not only played a sensational final against Andy Murray at the Olympics but was the one to knock out Djokovic in the first round. He had to get a wild card to even compete at the US Open but he’s definitely one to watch.

The Best of the Rest

Marin Cilic b. September 28 1988, 5:00 am, Zagreb, Croatia

Cilic beat Andy Murray at Cincinnati in the run up to the US Open and he also triumphed at the US Open two years ago. He currently has Jupiter boosting his 1st house as his Ascendant is 24 Virgo 49 and Jupiter was exactly at this point on August 15th 2016, the day after the Cincinnati tournament began. His Sun is at 5 Libra 15 so Jupiter’s heading steadily towards it and will be exact on October 3rd 2016.

Dominic ThiemΒ b. September 3 1993, 1:26 am, Wiener Neustadt, Austria

Thiem’s Sun is at 10 Virgo 29 so the eclipse on September 1st falls close to this point in his chart. His natal Venus is at 7 Leo 31, very close to the Midheaven of the tournament chart. On the day of the final, Venus is conjunct his natal Jupiter at 15 Libra. Not major astrology but Venus is one of the benefics, i.e. positive planets and the eclipse will either act as a boost or a downfall.

Bernie Tomic b. October 21 1992, time unknown, Stuttgart, Germany

Your Jupiter Return takes place once every 12 years when success planet Jupiter returns to the place it was in the zodiac when you were born. Tomic’s Jupiter is at 2 Libra 16. The Return isn’t exact during the tournament but will be on September 22nd 2016.

Jack Sock b. September 24 1992, time unknown, Lincoln, NE, USA

Jack Sock has two important Jupiter transits taking place. His natal Jupiter is 26 Virgo 27, so he’s just finishing his second Jupiter Return (exact August 23rd 2016). Plus another Libra with his Sun at 1 Libra 12 so success planet Jupiter is heading for his Sun as well. This is likely to be a peak period for him.

Alexander Zverev, April 20 1997, time unknown, Hamburg, Germany

Zverev is often cited as one of the younger players to note. A Sun Taurus, his north node, the destiny point, is at 27 Virgo 16 so Jupiter is very close to this point in his chart as the tournament begins. Because of no birth time, you can’t know for sure the degree of his natal Moon but it’s likely to be late degrees Virgo/early degrees Libra, so again may be boosted by Jupiter.

Feliciano Lopez b. September 20 1981, time unknown, Toledo, Spain

With his Sun at 27 Virgo 20, Lopez has Jupiter lighting up his Sun as the tournament begins.

Sam Querrey b. October 7 1987, time unknown, San Francisco, CA, USA

With his Sun at 13 Libra, Querrey also has action planet Mars at 29 Virgo. The triple stellium of Jupiter, Mercury & Venus in the tournament chart picks up his natal Mars although this is the exact degree at which Mercury turns retrograde on August 30th. [Update: Querrey lost in the 1st round on the day Mercury turned retrograde].

Borna Coric b. November 14 1996, time unknown, Zagreb, Croatia

A Sun Scorpio, Coric’ natal Mars is at 8 Virgo 11 so the solar eclipse on September 1st lands on it. This will be interesting to see whether he crashes out or peaks at the right time. Eclipses are linked to dramatic events. [Update: Coric retired in the 1st round].

Roberto Batista Agut b. April 14 1988, time unknown, Castellon de la Plana, Spain

Batista Agut’s Sun is at 24 Aries 40 and planet of surprises, Uranus, turned retrograde at this point in the heavens on July 29th 2016. As the tournament begins, Uranus is at 24 Aries 08, still in close conjunction to Agut’s Sun Aries. This adds the X Factor so watch out for surprises.

Who Will Win?

I’m having a flutter on Del Potro, you can’t count out no. 1 seed Djokovic but I’m going for Andy Murray to win as the no. 2 favourite.

  1. Vamos Del Potro! Rooting for him–it is so amazing to see him back and doing well. Murray is doing well so I wish him the best.

    1. hi Mac, yes, I’m looking forward to see how Del Potro goes after his Olympic achievements & with Jupiter boosting his Sun Libra πŸ™‚

  2. Vamos Del Potro! Rooting for him–it is so amazing to see him back and doing well. Murray is doing well so I wish him the best.

  3. HI Sally you are back again.
Your predictions made very interesting reading. In fact I found myself searching for this column of yours since yesterday !! Andy Murray should be the winner and you will fully deserve a `major boast`.
    Best regards

  4. Thank you for the update. This US Open is a bit bittersweet since Federer is not playing but he needs to heal. However I am glad to see Potro back and he is a personal favourite of mine. I agree Murray will win and I wish him luck.

  5. Thanks Sally, yes I ‘m with you I think Murray will take the title. Pluto conjunct the ascendant for Dojokvic is a hard energy to handle and this can explain his extremes. Great stuff one minute tears and sadness the next. You have to go through the depths to get to the heights with Pluto. I think it is Murray’s time. Djokovic has achieved so much and he most be a bit tired mentally.

    1. hi Shelley, it does sound as if Djokovic is now experiencing the flip side of his Pluto transit after his amazing Grand Slam achievement earlier in the year. It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back but I’m rooting for Murray.

  6. Hey Sally,

Do you see Rafa going deep in tournament? Even if he will not win, how will be his performance compared to earlier this year ? I hope he remains fit throughout the tournament.

    1. hi Rafa fan, I’m hoping that Mars in Sagittarius & his 1st house will boost his performance. He’s also got all the Virgo planets in his 10th house so he’s definitely with a shout from an astrological perspective.

  7. Also check if Rafa can ever win a slam from here on ?? I desperately want him to win at least one slam, probably Aussie open so that he can complete double career slam.

  8. About Rafa Nadal, do you think he can reach the semifinal in this edition, since he is the fourth seed and have a good draw to the semifinals, you think hecan do something important this time?. And I heard from another astrologer some time ago that in 2017 season he will be a contender to win Slams . So, what astrology tells you about the possibility that Nadal can still win a couple of majors next season or the next two seasons before he is too old to win majors ?.
Thanks and congratulations for the new website.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Tano. Jupiter in Libra should be positive for a few of the players, Rafa included, as it makes a positive trine aspect to planets in Gemini and Rafa’s Sun plus Mercury are both in the sign linked to tennis (Gemini). I’ll be happier when Saturn has finished its opposition to his Sun Gemini which takes place October 2016. So definitely less pressure from Saturn in 2017. Hope that helps.

  9. Dear Sally Welcome back to Grandslam Stage !!! Missed your prediction on Olympics. More than Grandslams, its your prediction and this forum is what I look forward to when they begin. Thank you for your prediction and will keenly follow how this turns out. Looking forward to healthy discussions and inputs from all the fellow Sally Fan club members !!

    1. Thank you Sathia. I’m looking forward to the lively discussion too. Sally’s Fan Club – I love it πŸ™‚

    1. See my reply below. Saturn is less tricky for him at the moment (it peaks again in October) and hopefully Mars in Sagittarius will boost his performance.

    1. Hi federer fan, see reply below. He’s not out of the woods yet with his difficult Saturn transit but currently Mars in Sagittarius is stronger than Saturn so hoping that will help him peak at this tournament.

  10. Hi Sally,

thanks a lot for another great Grand Slam prediction and congrats for picking Murray right as Olympic Champ! I love the way you are presenting details in your analysis as I do enjoy your updated website style. This magnificent font does truly suit the stars above πŸ‘
Many players seem to have interesting stars these days. I wanna put in Stan Wawrinka into the race. He had poor form recently but I cannot ignore signs for him participating in the final. His first round was good.

The final’s MC precisely hits his natal Mars 0,07 and North Node hits his IC 0,26. At final he enjoys Saturn sextile his natal Jupiter 0,09. Uranus sextiles his natal Moon 0,34. Venus, often indicating limelight in finals, sextiles his Uranus two days after. When arriving at home and cheered by fans and media?

Nebulous Neptune blocking him at Wimbledon (“I couldn’t make clear decisions on court”) is 2 degrees away from his Midheaven now. The possible quarters against Del Potro, I guess, might be decide who to be in final in the lower half of the draw. Stan then has Mars hit his natal Uranus, exact at Sep 7 – a game changer? This making an exact trine with his natal Mercury/Venus conjunction in evening hours. If night session, the Moon conjunct his natal Saturn would be gone. For Andy I miss transits and symbolics on his chart. Regarding your prediction for Djokovic to do well again, Sally, I have seen the Moon hit his Ascendant at final, too.

    Kind regards,

    Patrick

    1. Hi Patrick. Re. Wawrinka, Saturn sextile Jupiter is most helpful as Jupiter rules his Pisces Midheaven (career) so it’s his career planet. You are right that Neptune is less challenging for him now but it will be back square his Midheaven early next year. Like Murray & Djokovic, Wawrinka also has a fiery trine in his natal chart – Mercury/Venus Aries trine Uranus Sagittarius – so Mars will be igniting this positive aspect throughout the tournament. This astrology I like. I think the nodes would be more helpful if they were the other way round, i.e. north node conjunct Midheaven. As it stands, the north node is boosting his past/home/family.

Re. Murray – I like the fire trine too (Jupiter trine Moon/Saturn) with Mars activating it, plus the host of planets in his 1st house. Maybe too much going on and perhaps he’s had his moment this year (north node cnj Ascendant – which peaked during the Olympics) but he’s still my preferred favourite to win, as per chart of the tournament. I did note the Moon during the final conjunct Djokovic’ Ascendant – it’s a minor testimony. I am however querying the Pluto transit for him because of what’s been happening over the last few months, a lot to overcome. We shall however see what plays out. Hope that helps & glad you like the new website look πŸ™‚

      1. Thanks Sally for your detailed answer! Djokovic has Jupiter square his natal Sun and trine his natal Sun at the day of the final 0,78/0,85.

As you point out, Mars conjunct natal Saturn is triggering his Jupiter Saturn trine – above 1 degree in final – supporting him strongly in semifinal 0,05. This is also activitating his natal Saturn Mercury (his ruling planet) Opposition 0,91 and making a square to final’s chart Mercury. Born 1 week earlier than Novak, for Andy, Mars conjunct natal Saturn 0,34 in semis, in final 0,78. Novak’s natal trine is more precise, with 0,5 against above 2 degree for Andy. Murray has his Moon return at semi final (0,22) and Mercury sextile natal moon 0,04 at final.

        1. PS: More precise than Mercury, it is the Sun (conjunct Mercury at final) squaring
Mars 0,84 at final and, with Mars conjunct natal Saturn, building a Sun natal Saturn square 0,23 for Djokovic who usually acts well with Saturn.
Sun/Mercury, to the other side of the chart, also squares Djokovic’s natal Mercury which, again, connects to the Mars natal Saturn conjunction through his natal Saturn Mercury Opposition. Altogether this is building a triangelum at the final chart and is connected with the natal Jupiter Saturn trine.

  11. Hi Sally, Thanks again for taking time out again for the analysis. I am rooting for Del Potro!! What a come back would it be.

  12. Hi Sally,

How are you? Do you think things will improve for Roger next year when Saturn leaves his birth chart and will he be a major contender for Grand Slam?

This is Juan and maxi prediction for USO , please let me know what you think? Oh by the way your site look much much better and easier to read the comments.

    Juan Prediction

The last big astrologically I see with open panorama, but here take risks and give my forecast: Analyzing debuts cards (posted on the previous post), I find that Djokovic is the best. Since it has the planets that govern the I and X (Mars and Saturn ) joined by conjunction , and most importantly: the Moon leonine from the V applied by trigono those planets . Given that is the No. 1, with the testimony of the chart debut in their favor and especially with Jupiter entering Libra forming a trine to his Sun home would say it is a true contender for the title, but there is something that I finished close … and its moon revolution where Venus is left in quadrature your Saturn home. Mars will hit Mercury during the tournament, his wrist problems? I insist, it would be easy to say Djokovic champion, but I’m not convinced it will end up being so. If we see the player the moment, Andy Murray , we know that its Solar Revolution is exceptional. Your RL is ambiguous, Mars beside the Moon and Saturn natal not seem to be auspicious: perhaps it is more irascible than ever Andy? If we see Mercury , it is positioned in trigone partile to Sun home. I ranked as my candidate for the title, but in truth, not entirely convinced. Many will wonder Del Potro has a great opportunity to make a very good tournament. mercury moon is located in conjunction to Jupiter, but quadrature to Saturn native. Eye for the final stages will have to Jupiter on the sun , but do not think it reaches you . And another I put the eye is to Milos Raonic in the Lunar revolution current Canadian is favored by the stellium Virginian Venus / Jupiter / Mercury trine her Saturn and Mars hometown.

    Maxi prediction

Today is born a legend. Novak Djokovic has entered the gallery of tennis greats by winning Roland Garros 2016 and complete the Grand Slam.
Nole is living his β€œReturn of Saturn β€œ. In astrology , Saturn delay in giving a full turn around the Zodiac between 27-30 years which is when first returns to its original position the day of birth of a person. It is the stage of maturity. And act according to their natal determination. In the case of Nole, Saturn in 19 Β° of Sagittarius is in harmony (trine) to your Jupiter in 18 Β° Aries . Thus during the Saturnian return has very Jovian experiences: honors, successes, fortune . Something that was very well Franzua.
And will continue acting during the 2016 and 2017 much of the time in which the will reign in the tennis world. This year, back in September when Jupiter in the sky out of Virgo and enters Libra you will be making a trine to his Sun in Gemini. Surely win the US OPEN 2016.

In the Solar Revolution Nole is opposite Mars orb closed his Sun in Gemini. That could also put more irascible with a tendency to slightly more violent gestures, something he does not usually do.
For the Serbian something negative could come in the Olympics when Mars again beat his sun.

And Andy’s Mars opposite closed orb his Mercury home that is in the Midheaven .
The Scottish should be alert during Wimbledon when Mars will make squaring his Sun and in the Olympics when also receive the martial aspect to your Mercury in Gemini .
However Murray has an extra help in that Solar Revolution: Venus in conjunction to the Sun ; and Jupiter and Node North expansion both omen and fortune are on your Ascendant Virgo .
He is a generational Nole and has the same trine between Saturn and Jupiter. As also is living the Saturnian return I estimate that between them will be fighting for the No 1 this year and much of 2017 Greetings!

    Kind Regards

    Tri

    1. Tricky to understand the translation. They both favour Djokovic & Murray with Juan giving a nod to Del Potro & Raonic. The tournament chart picks out the favourite – so you have to say no. 1 or no. 2 seed to lift the trophy. Mars Sagittarius is the planetary factor that is triggering a lot of the top players’ charts this tournament, Nadal included. Yes, it can be angry Mars but it’s currently strong having got past Saturn at the end of last month, so brilliant for athleticism, fight, courage – all needed to win. The Jupiter-Saturn trine which both Djokovic & Murray have in their natal chart is very powerful right now thanks to Mars and when you have this in your chart, you know how to win. You learn from what you’ve done in the past (Saturn) and you have the confidence/knowledge (Jupiter) to repeat it. Hope that helps, Tri. Not looked at Federer’s chart for 2017 – will first see how he recovers from his injury πŸ™‚

  13. i am predicting a nadal vs murray final.it is difficult for me to pick a winner among those two though murray seems to have a slight astrological edge.

  14. Thanks to James Green who made me curious to watch Nadal’s chart I stepped into something special. Rafa Nadal, recently on his way back to competing with the best, has magnificient transits in the final:

Mars natal Uranus 0,28 triggers his precise natal Jupiter Uranus square which means Mars squares his natal Jupiter 0,16 including the best athletes’ planets. On the other hand, surprise planet Uranus squares his natal Mars 0,9 at 9/11. Sun opposes his natal Jupiter 1,0. Mercury trines natal Mars 1,09.

Limelight Venus squares natal Venus 0,06 precise, which is triggering the final’s Venus Pluto square with the final’s Ascendent exactly hit Pluto. AC/Pluto so opposes natal Venus 0,84 conjunct final’s DC 0,83 and altogether building a triangulum.

Nadal is my ultimate favorit to win this tournament as it astrologically brings everything we are used from former GS finals: axis conjunction with natal planet, energizing transits and Venus/Uranus. He will take revenge for Melbourne 2014 against Stan, I feel.

    1. hi Patrick, I agree with the Mars transit – if Nadal gets to the final it’s exactly conjunct his Uranus & that often can spring surprises. I find square aspects are more difficult than easy and I’m not sure about Nadal’s Venus conjunct the Descendant of the final chart, whether that is an indication of a win. You’d prefer to see it on the Ascendant or Midheaven. Definitely one to watch though and love your prediction πŸ™‚

      1. Thanks Sally for your reply! I see, so maybe he loses against Murray in final. Let’s see how it will turn out. There’s a lot going on astrologically with many players, I think. Exciting to watch!

          1. I’m not sure which player you are referring to? But no, Uranus is likely to trigger a square aspect. It’s not a soothing energy, just the opposite. Now if it was a positive trine aspect, then it would be much more interesting and could bring something special.

          2. Thanks for clarifying Sally!! I asked about Nadal with his Mars Jupiter square, Mars conjunct natal Uranus.

          3. I’m confused now too – good old Mercury retrograde! Nadal doesn’t have Mars square Jupiter, he has Mars Capricorn sextile Jupiter Pisces? Mars by transit picks up his natal Uranus on the day of the final which could swing either way. Will take a look at the final chart nearer the time.

          4. Right Sally, and transiting Mars conjunct natal Uranus moreover squares his natal Jupiter 0,16 precise at final. Both transits connected very exciting how to play out…

  15. Thanks Patrick!!!!

So you are going with a Nadal-Wawrinka final ??
As Raonic is out, I think it’s a cake walk for Nadal until semifinals..Do you see a Djokovic – Nadal semifinal? Do you see Nadal has the best astrology amongst the big 4 ?? And of course there is del potro as well….

  16. Dear Rafafan,
I think we should have an eye on Cincinatti Champ Maren Cilic who carries on his big form and regularly unfreezes at US Open in recent years. Yet being ashamed last year in semis against Djokovic the odds seem to be different this year in a possible quarterfinal as Novak still seems to struggle somehow. Cilic is one of the few players having the game to beat Djokovic or Murray, I think, with his big serve and offensiv game. Mercury conjunct Cilic’s AC I have seen at semis if birth time is right. As a Sun Libra he might profit from Jupiter approaching his star sign these days.

Second half, I prefer Wawrinka because of transits and axis conjunctions. Sally likes his Astrology, too. Del Potro has this super transit at final and if rectified birth time 12:07 is right, the Sun conjunct his Midheaven. As I write above, I think a possible quarter with Stan might decide the finalist of the second half draw.

    1. sally is the goat among astrologers predicting grand slam tennis.most of the time it is her prediction that is coming true.

    2. No worries about the other predictions, especially from Patrick. I’m enjoying reading them. I’m not always around to reply immediately but loving the comments. Keep them coming πŸ™‚

  17. Woah! Just been watching Djokovic – a walkover in the 2nd round, his opponent retired in the 3rd round. Not sure what this is astrologically for him but seems like a combination of the solar eclipse (exact today Friday) and Mercury retrograde. Totally unexpected. Not sure whether this is good for him or not right now! Thoughts?

    1. He is one lucky guy, I think it is good for him as he is recovering from injury as well as long as he doesn’t get walk over till semi finals:-)

      1. I’m not sure he struggles with his wrist. It seems more a mental thing with him since Wimbledon. He appeared to be shaking at 5-5 against Janowicz losing the set. Then it’s easy to blame it on the wrist. Becker said at Eurosport he’s fit. 4 days no match/ not being able to gain rhythm and self confidence which he both appears to need – not good.

        1. I heard his wrist injury wasn’t 100% recovered. Even a small niggle would show. The little I watched last night, he seemed to be taking his backhand with both hands at times, not sure if Djokovic does that normally? Anyway, the next match will show his fitness levels I’m sure and no doubt Kyle Edmunds will be up for the big match. He’s playing at his best right now.

      2. It does seem quite amazing, doesn’t it? Djokovic plays Kyle Edmunds next, the young Brit who’s having an exceptional year. He helped GB through to the next round of the Davis Cup. Born 8 January 1995, he’s a Sun Capricorn. No time of birth for him. Now that would be a major upset if he ousted Novak! Look forward to watching that one.

          1. What do you mean Djokovic taking backhand with two arms, Sally? He’s a backhand two-hander of course. We will see how it goes on..

          2. Oops! That’s me trying to read more into the situation than needed. Will wait patiently for Djokovic to play Edmund and see how he gets on then. It would be good to see him complete a match soon after Round 1 πŸ™‚

          1. Thanks for sending this, Eve. It doesn’t sadly as there’s no time of birth. Kyle Edmund did well though, didn’t he getting to the 4th round? πŸ™‚

          1. Nadal is out. As long as Djokovic’ wrist injury is fine, he looks to have booked his place in the final.

  18. I am eyeing for a Nadal – Djokovic semifinal, could Sally or Patrick confirm if it is coming? And if yes, astrologically who is better on that day ? I think semifinals would be played on Friday.

Madison Keys about to get crowned for winning her first Grand Slam at Saturday!
Rising this season, Madison Keys was breaking Top Ten few weeks ago for first time and will beat Williams in final.

At the opening chart Venus hits her natal Moon 1,06, if rectified birth time 7:55 P.M. is right, and IC hits natal Mercury 1,02. Her first round was closed, winning in third set: she had super transit Mars natal Jupiter 0,05 but Mars also squaring her natal Saturn 0,66 which might have caused the problems as she made short process in match 2 6-1, 6-1. Round 3 she was up against the wall with 2 breaks down in third set. I wonder if it was the Sun Saturn square/Sun Neptune Opposition of past Friday or Pluto exactly conjunct her Venus that day? Past has often shown that those kind of overcome obstacles end up in great stories as Angi Kerber had to defend one match point in round 1 at Melbourne against Doi.

At match start in the first semifinal, after warm up about 7.10 P.M., MC conjunct Key’s natal IC making a trine to Surprise Uranus and natal Mars thus building a triade at the zodiac. Highlighting the emphasized half of the zodiac of both the final’s and player’s chart. The Sun conjunct the Underdog representing Descendant – possibly facing Kerber. Jupiter conjunct her natal Moon 0,78 and in the evening hours after first semifinal, the Moon will be conjunct Key’s natal Jupiter, vice versa, giving her a self confidence boost.

The final chart’s Midheaven hits her north node 0,83 indicating a moment of destiny and Mercury conjunct Madison’s Ascendant 0,48. What more makes me think about Keys triumphing is Jupiter triggering her exact (0,01) Moon Pluto sextile, conjunct her natal Moon precisely 0,14 and sextile natal Pluto 0,15, giving her the inner faith and tremendous drive for success. Together with Mars trine natal Mars 0,95 sending her the keys to crack her Uber country woman? Pluto conjunct final’s Ascendant hits her natal Venus 0,41 squared by Venus 0,77 rounding up a great final chart.

Let’s see what Sally writes about Madison’s Starsign Aquarius in her NEW monthly horoscope:

“Eclipses bring highs and lows so one way or another you might find that your financial situation is currently in flux and is likely to change before the month is out. The Saturn-Neptune square is also powerful this month both on the 1st when it links in to the solar eclipse and the 10th when the aspect is exact. This is important for you because Saturn is your traditional ruling planet and it clashes with Neptune in Pisces and your personal money sector.”

US Open Champ receives a record high 3,5 million dollars. Final for women: Septembre 10th πŸ™‚

As I just write about Williams in final above, you will probably think about Serena reaching her 8th final in recent 9 Grand Slams. Yet, I think it will be Venus to take revenge for last year’s defeat in quarters against her sister and face Madison in final (head-to-head 2-2). Venus is in great shape these days and continues her comeback among the best. In final, the Ascendant Pluto conjunction hits her IC 0,89/0,12 and her namesake ruling planet Venus conjunct her Ascendant 0,91. AC squares natal AC 0,26. The Sun conjunct her natal Mars 0,75 triggering the Sun Mars square (1,07) at final’s Saturday. Mars sextile natal Pluto (House 1) 0,38 and Mercury square natal Venus 0,04 and sextile natal Uranus (House 2) 0,35. Mars square her natal Saturn the day after final might indicate an upset. Moreover, see what Sally writes about Venus’ illness and those two planets in her chart in the recent Wimbledon blog:

“She has a Mars/Saturn conjunction in Virgo in the 12th house. Mars rules energy/athleticism but Saturn acts as a block, dampens down what it touches. Virgo is the sign which rules the body and health, plus the 12th house is often invisible, what’s hidden. Bless her – Saturn is based on a 7 year cycle so I hope that by next year, 2017, she might start to be free of the disease. Auto-immune diseases require a lot of care and attention. Amazing really that she’s still playing at a top level.”

In succession of painfully failing the Grand Slam one year ago, Serena would suffer a quintuple shock this time this prediction coming true: losing against her sister, losing against her rising compatriot, losing Number 1 after 187 consecutive weeks, failing to overtake Steffi Graf in GS victories and this altogether in her country’s most popular city and biggest stadium in the world. Keys approaching her in rankings with new Number 3. Venus will be 6.

      1. Hi Lisa, I haven’t looked at all the women’s charts but I do know Serena’s chart and as she’s the favourite (chart tournament favours the favourite), she’s got to be worth a nod. Plus she has a stellium in Libra (b. September 26 1981 – Sun Libra) and lucky Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th, the day before the final. In addition, Venus, her ruling planet, is already in Libra and will be closing in on a conjunction with her natal Jupiter Libra on the day of the final. One final testimony, the Sun in Virgo will also be close to a conjunction with her natal Moon on the day of the final – bringing the trophy home?

    1. hi Patrick, sorry late to reply again! Madison Keys is out. My tip for prediction is to start by looking at the bigger picture rather than the connections between the individual charts for each match and the player’s chart. There’s always a lot of astrology to consider so go for what leaps out at you, like Jupiter conjunct Del Potro’s Sun. That’s got to be a huge boost for him. Then start to look at the minor connections. There’s no registered time of birth for Madison Keys. Therefore, unless Pluto is strong in her chart (like Djokovic for example, Pluto rules his Scorpio Midheaven), my prediction would be that Pluto conjunct her Venus is likely to be a negative factor rather than a positive one.
I find making individual predictions for each match really tricky and never had the best success rate so I do what works for me. Major transits, plus what the chart of the tournament tells me. Once you find your best way of making predictions, stick with it. It’s fun learning though, right?

    2. Hi Sally, yesterday certainly was a learning experience with Nadal and Keys going out.
What puzzles me yet, is that players have so many transits which are part of a ‘toolkit’ for GS finals, including precision under 1 degree. Venus Williams, in final, would have enjoyed the Sun hit natal Mars, Venus hit her AC and DC conjunct natal MC – all three as her first US Open title in 2000. I also think about Virgo Berdych who had his Mercury Return and Jupiter conjunct natal Sun in the Olympic finals and didn’t take part. This appears strange sometimes, also seen in statistic perception. Tennis astrology seems a bit like a fly agaric, feeling attracted by multiple good looking transits and easily losing clarity πŸ™‚

Analysing how the favorite does through observing the moon in the chart works well, as you have shown in recent GS predictions. What I regret, is other indications as Uranus on the Descendant or conjunct MC in an opening/final chart don’t prove to be reliable at all predicting a surprise winner. Also analysing the ruler of AC and DC for making an assessment if the favorit or underdog is to win, has so often proved wrong for me. This made me lose trust in these indications and focus on players’ transits.

Players taking part in Grand Slam finals predominantly have planets conjunct with the axis in Grand Slam final/opening charts or both. As you mention Del Potro with Jupiter conjunct natal Sun – Sabine Lisicki, losing first round, has the same transit in quarters and semis these days, but no planets on natal MC/AC or vice versa. This lacking for favorites makes it more exciting this time for me. Let’s see how it goes on πŸ˜ƒ

      1. It’s the skill of an astrologer to sift through the mass of details to pick out what’s meaningful. Always with astrology you need to relate it to the person, what’s happening for them in their lives, i.e. put the astrology into context. Working with clients really helps you understand this process more.
Tennis/sports prediction is therefore tricky because we don’t have the full story, what’s going on behind the scenes, like with Djokovic at Wimbledon. He’s now told us there were private issues which affected his game. The Pluto transit of his Ascendant pointed to this as Pluto is ‘invisible’, the Ascendant is ‘personal’. Yet we can still use the astrology to reveal the likely outcome of the tennis and even if we don’t get the prediction right, the astrology makes sense more times than not. I would stop doing the Grand Slam predictions if the astrology made no sense, but in fact it’s been the opposite, an incredibly useful tool.
My advice is always to focus on the major transits first, the slower-moving planets and see what they tell you. Then you can start to look at the faster-moving planets as testimony to your prediction. The chart of the tournament also works well for me but find your own way with it. Take a step back, gain a wider overview. You’re a good astrologer, Patrick, so please don’t be disheartened. I always enjoy reading your comments.

    1. Absolutely! I didn’t stay up to watch the match – 2am here in the UK – but sounds like it was relatively easy for Djokovic. That will be a big confidence boost.

      1. Sally, I read your analysis of Novak’s astrology for the tournament again and correct me if I am wrong, despite struggles it looks great for the final ?

        Thanks

        1. Yes, as I said in my conclusion in my article, you can’t count out Djokovic. He is the no. 1 seed and the tournament chart points to the favourite doing well. What’s been interesting re. Djokovic this year is the Pluto transit over his Ascendant. Pluto is the planet linked to extremes and he went from winning four Grand Slams back-to-back to surprise defeats at Wimbledon & the Olympics. So it’s been a year of ups and downs for him and it’s seeing whether he’s going to bounce back and hit a winning streak again or not.
The really interesting astrology for me has been the influence of Mars in Sagittarius which is strong right now, the strongest planet perhaps in a month of eclipses and Mercury retrograde. Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka (and Nadal) all have key planets in fire signs which have been triggered by the Mars and this will continue until the final. I went for Murray to win because he’s no. 2 favourite, he has similar astrology to Djokovic except for the fact that Djokovic has the Pluto transit going on still and Murray has a host of Virgo planets in his 1st house. I felt the Virgo planets would boost Murray’s chances, hence my prediction.

          1. Ok. Thanks so much for response in such detail. Maybe because of Pluto, Djokovic may loose the mental edge he had over Murray!!

  21. Lucky Jupiter boosting Del Potro’s chances already? Thiem just retired to Delpo is through to the semi-finals. Is it me or have there been an unusually large number of walkovers/retired this tournament? Eclipse/Mercury retrograde feel to it.

    1. Yes, a lot of injured players–it is hurting the tournament. Two walkovers against Novak. One just now against Potro. Nick quit. Is it due to a long season which includes the Olympics, or is it playing at side events for a quick buck? Who knows but it is unfortunate. Aside from that negative, it is fantastic to see Potro and Venus playing well. I miss the beautiful game of Federer. Good effort by Nadal against Lucas.

    1. I’m really looking forward to the Wawrinka, Del Potro quarter final. That should be a good one. I’m going for Del Potro because of the lovely Jupiter transit to his Sun but Wawrinka has some good astrology too thanks to that powerful Mars in fire sign Sagittarius.

  23. can sally tell us what are the astrological factors that is troubling nadal. some of the matches that nadal has lost he has come very close to winning. eg 1st round loss against verdasco in ao semifinal loss at olympics against delpo last year 3rd round loss against fognini at uso and this year uso 4th round loss etc. such matches he would not have lost 3 years back.just asking to be enlightened.

    1. hi James, have a read of this article I wrote back in February 2013 which gives you a closer idea of Nadal’s astrology/natal chart http://www.sallykirkman.com/rafael-nadal-the-comeback-kid/. I do feel for Rafa because he’s had a tricky run of Saturn transits, the testing planet, and until Saturn leaves Sagittarius at the end of 2017, it’s going to be harder for him to win. It’s not impossible but it means he has to work twice as hard physically and mentally. Tough astrology to be fair.

      1. Sally, does Saturn still affect Nadal when it’s multiple degrees apart from opposition as you say it will bother him till Saturn is out of Sagittarius? In a similiar context, it would be interesting to know when a player extensively profits from Jupiter approaching a crucial natal planet? We have seen it with Thiem starting his rise when Jupiter entered Virgo and Del Potro dince summer, but other athletes show significant boost in their performance only when cones real close, as with Berdych at Wimbledon amd Jupiter approaching his ruling planet Mercury. Thanks for a short assessment!

        1. hi Patrick, if you know the time of birth then notice which house of the chart a planet transits through. Saturn is currently in the 1st house for Nadal, which rules the physical body and I know through working with clients, this can be a tricky transit; low energy, health issues, etc. You don’t always have exactitude date-wise during the bigger transits as they often make 3 aspects to a planet going back and forth. So they give you a flavour of the year, a theme. That’s when the minor planets and lunations can come in, when they trigger that same planet and that’s when you get the big event. At the same time as Saturn in the 1st, Jupiter has been in the 10th (career/success) for Nadal (Jupiter Virgo) so there are times when he’s played well but it seems it’s not been enough to overcome the Saturn transit. Sometimes as you say, a player gets a boost when Jupiter enters the same sign as their Sun and sometimes when it makes an exact aspect. I’ve been talking recently in my astrology newsletter about people born under Sun Libra and how they will start to come to prominence once Jupiter enters Libra as it does tomorrow, September 9th. Hope that helps.

          1. Thanks again, Sally. I get that Saturn coming back three times moving into 180 degrees to Nadal’s Sun will affect him. Otherwise, do you think it still affects him if Saturn is at last degrees in Sagittarius, but 20 degrees apart from opposing his Sun at 10 degrees Gemini? Cool, I will have look on your newsletter about Jupiter in Libra πŸ‘

          2. It’s not just Nadal’s Sun in Gemini, Patrick. He also has Mercury at 26 Gemini, ruler of his Virgo Midheaven, so Saturn continues to oppose key planets in his chart almost until it completes its transit through Sagittarius.

      2. thanks for the reply sally.as per sidereal astrology he is running the main period of moon and the sub period of north node from december 2015 to june 2017. his main period of moon started in july 2014. moon is afflicted by the north node in his chart and it is from july 2014 that he started getting various health issues like back wrist appendicitis etc.his knee problem is a chronic problem present from birth. most importantly he lost his mental strength from july 2014 onwards at the onset of the major period of the moon. moon is the significater of the mind and is afflicted by the north node. may be with the onset of jupiter sub period in the main period of moon in june 2017 his fortunes would improve.i am sure his mental strength will come back. whether he will win any more major one has to wait and see.

    1. What is going on indeed! Crazy times for Djokovic. I know the chart of the tournament had the Moon on the Midheaven, a clear symbol which favours the favourite but this is major favouritism!! Astrologically, this was always going to be a roller-coaster ride of a month with Mercury retrograde and two eclipses but at the moment Djokovic has every green light going for him. Is that a good thing or not?

I can’t see him losing to Monfils, although Monfils has interesting astrology too and I do have a time of birth for him. Sun Virgo, the eclipse fell on his Sun on his birthday, September 1st, so he turned 30 during the tournament (b. 1986). Eclipses either bring you to power or knock you off your perch. Plus he has Uranus not far off his Midheaven, the success point of the chart. Uranus is currently at 23/24 Aries retrograde, i.e. in retreat and Monfils’ Midheaven is 26 Aries if his time of birth is correct (4:50 am). In addition on the day of the semis, Mars is at 18 Sagittarius and conjunct Monfils natal Uranus at 18 Sagittarius! So are we looking at an upset? Uranus does spring surprises. Surely not another walkover/retired. Hope not. It kind of spoils the game. Look forward to seeing what happens.

        1. Yes, it is close. Pluto doesn’t quite get back to the Mars though before turning direct later this month. So maybe not as strong as earlier in the year.

  25. Djokovic just won against Tsonga. With Tsonga retiring (!!) after loosing first two sets. This means Novak is going to be having all the energy in the tank and will start as the favorite for the Semi and he also has 12-0 record against Monfils (He plays like a matured player this year in US open)

  27. As supposed, Wawrinka vs. Del Potro is set for night and Saturn conjunct his Moon from daytime will be gone. Stan today has Mars exactly conjunct his natal Uranus in Sagittarius (0,00) an exact trine with his natal Mercury/Venus (0,07/0,42) conjunction in evening hours. The Mercury/Venus conjunction played a decisive role at his triumph in Paris when it was conjunct Uranus and built a trine with natal Uranus on the one side and Jupiter on the other side of the zodiac at final against Djokovic. Let’s see if it pushes him into the semis. Delpo has Moon square his natal Moon at least in the first match hour if rectified 12:07 P.M. is his birth time. Jupiter still before approaching 1 degree zone to his Sun (1,07). Great quarter match!

    1. I really want Del Potro to win! Interesting that both Monfils and Wawrinka have Uranus at a similar degree, late 17 – Wawrinka; early 18 – Monfils. So will Mars conjunct the Uranus help them or defeat them? We’ll soon find out.

      1. As for Tsonga same for Monfils in my opinion. Against Top 3 players they usually break away mentally. TV experts yesterday talking big about Tsonga and Wilander making Monfils his top favorit. He certainly seems to have matured recently, but no matter the astrology, I give him no chance against Nole. Yet he would be the most deserved to win a slam as he’s such a talented player, I think.

  28. As supposed, Wawrinka vs. Del Potro is set for night and Saturn conjunct his Moon from daytime will be gone. 29. I think we’re seeing the recent (Sept. 1) solar eclipse in expression. The eclipse was square transiting Saturn and Mars and opposite Neptune, so it certainly could be difficult in expression.

The eclipse was square Nadal’s Sun and Murray’s Midheaven, and they both lost before the semis. The eclipse was square Djokovic’s progressed Midheaven, and I wonder if it will deny him the title. What do you think, Sally, Patrick, anyone?

It’s interesting that the solar eclipse during last year’s US Open occurred within a few days of losses by Serena and Roger. It was conjunct Serena’s Moon and Roger’s progressed Sun. It was opposite transiting Chiron, the planetoid of “wounding.” Serena’s loss was shocking since she was ranked far higher than her opponent. The power of a difficult eclipse?

    1. hi AstroTennis, yes interesting about the eclipse and I kind of expected things not to play out as normal with both Mercury retrograde and an eclipse during the tournament. I do remember the eclipse was very close to Serena’s Moon last year when she lost. I’m not so sure about the eclipse this time around however. I usually go for a 1 degree orb with eclipses, so it’s a tad wide for me to be square Murray’s Midheaven at 7 Gemini and too wide for Nadal’s Sun at 12 Gemini. Plus I often find the conjunction/opposition aspects are the strongest with the eclipse, as per Serena last year.
However it’s still worth noting and very interesting that it fell on Monfils’ Sun at 8 Virgo. I’ll be intrigued to see how he does against Djokovic.
      Thanks for your comment πŸ™‚

    1. Yes! I woke up this morning to find that both my choices, Del Potro & Murray had lost over night. That will teach me never to make a prediction when Mercury is about to turn retrograde and there’s an eclipse during the tournament!
I don’t have a time of birth for Nishikori but a japanese fan told me they thought it was somewhere between 5-6am which would mean he has Jupiter currently close to his Midheaven, the career/success point of the chart. I went for 5:30am for him and that made his Midheaven 27 Virgo where Jupiter was in the tournament chart. It might be a couple of degrees either side of that depending on the correct birth time.

    1. Del Potro out too! Both my favourites to win πŸ™ I’ve just posted about Nishikori’s chart and with Monfils and the eclipse factor, plus Mars lighting up his chart and Wawrinka’s and Djokovic’s, it’s suddenly gone topsy turvy! I’ll wait and see what happens next before making any further predictions.

  31. Sally, I just read your Sept. 7 reply to Mac in which you discussed the wildcard nature of an eclipse, bringing increased power or a fall from power.

So, the eclipse fell on Monfils’ Sun? The semifinal match between him and Djokovic could indeed be interesting!

    1. Yup! The tournament chart still states the favourite and so far no. 1 seed Djokovic has had all the luck. Will it continue? Should be interesting.

    1. It’s looking likely, Jean. Thanks for your comment. Any chance you can post comments not in capital letters? Thanks. It always looks like shouting!

  32. Sally mentioned favourite as the winner for US Open and picked Andy murray. He is out now. Now I think favourite becomes Novak. During wimbledon Sally mentioned favourite as the winner and picked winner as Novak. Once he was out the favourite became Andy. How do favorites change towards the end of the tournament?

    1. Hi D, that’s my interpretation. I felt Murray went into this US Open as the favourite because he won Wimbledon and the Olympics and Djokovic had struggled at both. At Wimbledon, I chose Novak as the favourite because he was the no. 1 seed and he was in winning form leading up to Wimbledon. However you could say that with a home crowd at Wimbledon, it was Murray they wanted to win. Hope that helps!

      1. Sally,
You were correct for the most part including Novak, going in as favorite into Wimbledon. But there are other external factors like personal issues or injuries that tend not to get highlighted before start of the tournament. there is no way to gauge these things going since they drastically affect performance. Given that Novak was was early at wimbledon , Murray had the next best chance and grabbed it.

Now going into US open, I still think Novak is the favorite (unless injury kicks in again). If crowd favorite were were to be the actual favorite, then Federer will take the cake everytime.

        1. hi Mannar, that’s why I tend to write the predictions close to the tournament because you have to consider how each player is doing. There’s no use predicting someone to win if they come into a tournament with an injury no matter how good their astrology may look. I agree about Federer too – he’s adored by many πŸ™‚

      2. I have been following your astrology from 2012 and felt many times the astrology is based on the form of the person leading into the tournament and honestly astrology should not be based on form of a person leading into the tournament. If you believe horoscope then it should be completely based on the stars of the person and should not affect mid way or towards the end of the tournament, irrespective of factors like eclipse, or for example you asked why did novak play on court no.1 during his loss in Wimbledon. All those things do not matter when you pick a person based on stars. If you pick a person at the beginning of the tournament to win and if he fails which means the astrology to pick was not so good and it should be better next time. Please do not change favorites mid way during the tournament. Just try to come back with a strong astrology for next tournament.

        1. hi D, I disagree. Astrology is not about waving a magic wand to make everything alright. Astrology is a tool you can use to gain a different perspective on your situation and it’s always a mix of fate and free will. You cannot use it independently of the other because then it loses all meaning, it has no context. You don’t seem to understand what I’m trying to do with the astrology and notice I use the word ‘astrology’ rather than ‘horoscope’. The two are separate. What I intend to achieve with the sports predictions is to find out whether the astrology is mirrored in real life, hence the analogy ‘as above, so below’. I am also only the astrologer, i.e. I am the one who intervenes between the movement of the planets and the players – I do not create the astrology. Astrology means ‘language of the stars’ so I am the intermediary, the person who interprets the movement of the planets. Writing these predictions is a learning process for myself too and I’m not changing favourites mid-way through a tournament. If my original prediction was wrong, I try to understand why and what the astrology shows. As long as the astrology works more times than not (and it’s been a good year on the prediction front), I’ll continue writing these sports predictions. When it doesn’t work consistently, then there’s no point and I’ll stop. So please don’t ask me to come back with ‘a strong astrology’ next time. I find that comment offensive. If the way I predict & interpret astrology doesn’t work for you, then go & find another astrologer who makes predictions the way you want them to.

          1. That was a clear response !! (Though I personally felt that post does not deserve response).

We support your views. For me, I have no basic knowledge of Astrology, but your posts create a kind of learning and I can see your own passion in studying the stars. Keep it up Sally. Thanks from Sally’s Fans Club !!!

          2. Hi Sally, I never asked to predict the way I want. But anyways, If I comment further this would lead to an argument which I not what I intend to do with any astrologer as I believe a lot in astrology and horoscope both.Thank You

  33. I am sad that Potro lost but they played with heart and I believe Stan will win it. I hope Potro will come back in 2017 a full-time and injury-free player that will win a slam. What a great athlete!

    1. Me too re. Del Potro. I’ve kind of run out of steam in this tournament for who I want to win. My favourites are out.

  34. I have checked Nishikori’s career finals to date and 5:30 A.M. appears to be the right birth time, possibly accurate to exact minute. Kai Nishikori enjoyed Mercury trine his natal Mercury against Murray. At final, the exact Pluto Ascendant conjunction (14,58/59) directly falls on his natal Saturn Moon conjunction at 15 Virgo. This constellation, slightly apart by degrees, already ocurred at several of his 4 triumphs at Memphis and as a runner-up at Acapulco in former years. On top of this final chart’s accumulation the Moon falls onto it which also means, Kei has still his lunar return at Sunday’s match start. And guess where Michael Chang’s natal Mercury is – right, also at 15 degrees Virgo 😜 All these planets at 14/15 Virgo are squared by Venus. Chang with Uranus conjunct natal Moon. After failing in his first Grand Slam final to date at same place, two years ago against Cilic, Kei and his coach will be keen to get another chance.

In the opening chart you find further indications for the Japanese to do well this year again. As you point out, Sally, Jupiter (0,04) hits his Midheaven and also Mars precisely hits his Ascendant (0,17). Also Mercury and Venus have been in close conjunction to his MC on Day 1. The final’s ascendant hits his natal Venus 0,25. Many promising symbolics for Kamikaze Kei!

Nishikori is a born Capricorn with 5 planets in this sign. Ruling planet of Capricorn, Saturn, is conjunct the Moon in his chart. At his second triumph in his home capital Tokyo in 2014, the Midheaven of the final chart was exactly conjunct Saturn at 20,55 Scorpio in the final chart. It is a wonderful analogy that Kei is carrying a character from EarthBound series of video games as talisman in his bag. He was given that by a fan and it’s official name is ‘Mr. Saturn’ πŸ˜ƒ Brilliant story… https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DkGPBl_iEs4

Stan is having some good indications for taking part in the final, too. The final’s MC precisely hits his natal Mars 0,07 and North Node hits his IC 0,26. At final he enjoys Saturn sextile his career planet Jupiter 0,09. Uranus sextiles his natal Moon 0,34. Venus sextiles his Uranus two days after, often occuring when athletes are in public’s eye after a big event. As his friday opponent, he will have a huge drive to come through into final for first time as he lost against Federer last year and two years ago in quarters against…Kei Nishikori in 5 sets.

For Djokovic, Mars conjunct natal Saturn is triggering his Jupiter Saturn trine – above 1 degree in final – supporting him strongly in semifinal 0,05 against Monfils. This is also activitating his natal Saturn Mercury (his ruling planet) Opposition 0,91 and making a square to final’s chart Mercury. The moon conjunct his Ascendant 0,11 at final might be another indication for him to be on court then, next to the favorit doing well in the opening chart. Boris Becker recently had Saturn sit on his Ascendant for weeks, still 1 degree close, and in the first days of the tournament, Jupiter conjunct natal Uranus. Few days ago his Venus return.
    Let the semis begin…..

    1. Hi,Patrick

It looks like Kei’s stars shine better than Stan.
So the final may be Kei vs Djokovic .
In final,it seems Djokovic have Jupiter’s help.
Anyway,I hope Kei will play Excellently.Good luck to Kei.

      1. Hi Jean,
there are plenty of indications for Kei to reach his second IS Open final. There are no Mars/Jupiter transits catching my eyes, possibly it’s Pluto conjunct his natal Saturn/Moon conjunction in house 2 including his ruling planet and potentially influencing his whole Capricorn stellium?

Novak also has Jupiter square his natal Mars at final 0,78. Not precise but a dangerous square? With No 1 seeded Serena going out yesterday, I have the feeling chances for the 3 underdogs at semis are increasing. Boris Becker had Saturn conjunct his Ascendant during his charge’s recent upsets and it’s still 1 degree close.

        1. The Sun Mars square at final means also a Sun Saturn square (0,23) for Djokovic, another square besides Jupiter natal Mars. It connects with Mars cinjunct natal Saturn and his natal Jupiter Saturn trine as with the natal Saturn Mercury Opposition.
Also he enjoys Jupiter trine natal Sun 0,85.

          1. Let’s see Djokovic:The square besides Jupiter natal Mars in Sixth Palace means the physical pain or injury? But the positive factors from Jupiter trine natal Sun play the most important role, right? The other three opponents’s stars can’t compare with that.
When Kei played with Andy,we see Jupiter conjunct his Midheaven. However,Jupiter will move away a bit from Midheaven on final day.
When Stan won previous two Slams, his natal Mercury was triggered by Jupiter and other stars had supported that. Now the stars are not that good.

    2. So who’s your pick now, Patrick? I did see that Nishikori has just won the Sportsmanship Award which is a lovely showing for Jupiter conjunct the Midheaven. Nice for a Capricorn too, the sign of dignity and respect πŸ™‚

      1. Interesting Sally and suits him well that award I think! With the last days and surprises the odds seem to have changed a bit that we shall include the possibility of Novak to fail.
I don’t like to drop my final pick Wawrinka who has got some good astrology as discussed, but can’t avoid the abundant indications for Kei. I could well imagine him winning this tournament after his upset in 2014. Saturn conjunct AC with Becker and the Jupiter Mars square might speak against him, don’t they? What do you think about the major Capricorn conjunction in the final regarding Kei? Can’t wait for those two great semis to start. Today beginning earlier than yesterdays late night show… πŸ’€

  35. Its Djokovic’s now..I doubt Monfils will even take a set off of him. Whoever comes through from the other side, will be tired, battered and will be easy picking for him.

  36. Its Djokovic’s now..I doubt Monfils will even take a set off of him. Whoever comes through from the other side, will be tired, battered and will be easy picking for him.

  37. transit saturn is exactly aspecting wawrinka’s natal jupiter throuhhout this tournament. this may prevent wawrinka from winning the tournament.

    1. …or bring him to that, it’s a positive sextile. Saturn so might rather support him as Jupiter is his career planet, James.

      1. patrick you have got a very good point.as per sidereal astrology saturn is the lord of mc and jupiter is his 10th lord.he is running the major period of jupiter and the sub period of sun. sun is placed in his 10th house house of career. so this period can bring success.

          1. Is Stan your pick, Patrick? I fancy Djokovic but this has been one strange tournament astrologically. Maybe the favourite, i.e. no. 1 seed will come good after all in the men’s tennis!

          2. have seen more convincing astrology for the Djoker in recent GS finals, Sally. That makes it more difficult. The opening chart speaking for the favorit is an argument and Kerber certainly was one of 2 top favorits, too. I wonder if the two squares could affect Novak or indicate loss?Β

MC sextiles Stan’s Descandent 0,07 I have seen, too. 2 days after the final, arriving at home, there’s Venus opposing natal Venus and sextile natal Uranus. The moon conjunct natal Jupiter, then. Norman has Jupiter sextile Saturn, vice versa as Stan, and North Nide sextile natal North Node.Β I pick Stan πŸ˜ƒ

  38. Both Kei and Kerber are Capricorn. With Kei winning the Sportsmanship Award and Kerber’s ascendance to No.1, I feel their stars favor them for a Grand Slam win.

  39. Djokovic vs. Stan in the final.

Since I’m concentrating on the Sept. 1 solar eclipse and using a wider orb than you would, Sally, my guess is that Djokovic is favored. The eclipse though square his progressed Sun is opposite Stan’s Midheaven, opposing the career point.

In addition, the transiting North Node is within a degree of the conjunction to Stan’s IC, putting the South Node at his Midheaven. I think that’s also not good for success.

And transiting Chiron, planetoid of “wounding” is closely square Stan’s Moon, ruler of his Ascendant. That could make for an unpleasant experience.

But Djokovic has some challenging transits as well. Mars is opposite his Chiron and the Sun square his Saturn. There could be difficulties to contend with even if he wins.

I usually don’t venture a guess on outcomes, it’s so very hard to get it right. ( I have endless admiration for you, Sally, with your excellent track record.) But I’m thinking it’s looking like a better day for Novak than Stan, and maybe we will see the tournament chart favoring the favorite in expression.

    1. Djokovic also has Jupiter square natal Mars besides Jupiter trine his Sun. All this transits are above 0,5 degrees, yet. I am not sure how significantly they will affect him.

    2. Looking at recent triumphs of Pliskova, I have found North Node conjunct her natal IC at the final of Nottingham. So, rather good for Stan?

      1. Thanks for your reply, Patrick. Well, maybe it will be good for Stan. In addition, I’ve read that an eclipse opposite one’s Midheaven can actually express in success. But this could be a nasty eclipse. Anyway, it will be interesting to see.

  40. Pliskova is my favorit for today’s women final. She started US Open with the Sun conjunct natal Jupiter and possibly Jupiter conjunct natal MC. Today Jupiter precisely opposes her natal Sun – as with Flavia Penetta 1 year ago. If it’s true that Karolina is born early at night, this transit is precise 0,1-0,2 degrees today, Flavia had 0,26 in quarters and 0,13 in semis 2015. As I cannot find special transits for new WTA Number 1, Angi Kerber, I think Cincinnatti will repeat with Pliskova reaching her first Grand Slam title.

    1. So we have Stan – Sun Aries – v. Novak – Sun Gemini. Interesting that both players have key planets in fire signs at similar degrees – Stan has a Venus/Mercury conjunction at 17/18 Aries trine Uranus at 17 Sagittarius; Novak has Jupiter at 18 Aries trine Saturn at 19 Sagittarius. Both fire trines have been lit up by the ‘athlete’ planet Mars in Sagittarius during the tournament. Today Mars is at 20 Sagittarius. So good for both.
Stan’s major transit now is Saturn at 10 Sagittarius closely sextile his lucky Jupiter at 10 Aquarius. Jupiter is his career planet so a strong showing for doing well. I didn’t pick Stan earlier in the tournament but looking at his astrology I was wrong.
Yet what is going on with Novak? If anyone needed luck coming into this tournament, it was Novak after a dip in form & a wrist injury. Out of 6 matches so far, 3 have retired or been walkovers – incredible!
Jupiter represents luck and although Jupiter was in Virgo for most of the tournament, it entered Libra on September 9th and is now moving towards a gorgeous trine aspect with Novak’s Sun at 1 Gemini. So maybe the lucky trine was also evident whilst Jupiter was in Virgo. It was a wide orb at the start of the tournament (27 Virgo) but he certainly seems to have had the Gods on his side. Today the chart for the final has similar angles to Novak’s own chart. A Moon/Pluto conjunction Capricorn astride a Capricorn Ascendant at 15 degrees. So again this picks out Novak’s chart and the chart of the tournament seemed to favour the favourite so I’d have to say Djokovic. I’ll be watching tonight with great interest. The astrology has bamboozled me this time around so it will be good to see whether it comes true at the end!

      1. Thank you Sally for analysing the final πŸ˜ƒ
What do you think about Djokovic with Jupiter square his natal Mars 0,78? There’s also Mars square his natal Saturn above 1 degree. Seen from a symbolic view, AC near natal AC seems as a result of last years exact conjunction – some degrees apart this year as it’s similiar date as last year. I have often seen this with players’s angles in finals of a same tournament over the years, success mostly happening in that year when conjunction is exact. But there’s also the Moon conjunct his AC as you point out. Do you see a (symbolic) connection between the Moon closed to MC in the opening chart? As closing a cycle?

        1. hi Patrick, well done on your correct prediction for the final. I have just written an update for the main article. The astrology shows for Stan but I’m not so sure about the chart for the tournament. Your thoughts would be appreciated. The Moon on the Midheaven is strong & points to the favourite doing well, especially as the Moon then goes on to make fire sign trines with first Saturn, then Mars Sagittarius. Perhaps the Moon’s trine to Saturn could be read as someone who’s won before? Rather than someone new, an outsider, which would be Uranus. Interesting too what you say about the Moon on the Midheaven in the opening chart, Moon on the Ascendant in the final chart and a symbolic connection between the two. Could this be read as the favourite will do well in the tournament – Moon on the Midheaven (and Novak was extremely lucky with walkovers/retired players) but the Moon/Pluto on the Ascendant in the final chart symbolised that the favourite would be unable to go any further so Pluto working in its negative aspect at the end.

          1. Thank you Sally πŸ˜ƒ Stan’s success is uplifting me after my upset with Nadal/Keys and I have learned a lot the 2 weeks. Your prediction suits to the developments around Nole and Kerber certainly was a favorite, too. So congrats to you, too πŸ‘
Thanks also for your special tournament conclusion and of course it is better to you as the pro to interpret. As with the Moon in the opening and final chart, I often see it challenging to analyse transits/conjunctions if being a symbolic meaning or simply a supporting aspect. This astrology looks so complex, as it often does, and your above interpretations appear interesting like a puzzle put together.
What a brilliant final yesterday, Stan really is an animalπŸ‘ŒπŸΌ
Thanks again and hopefully see you soon, Sally! Kind regards, Patrick

  41. I’m going with Djokovic today moon in Capricorn will help him today. Patrick was right about Wawrinka he is in the final but I think Djokovic has some unseen help from the gods of New York.

  42. This tournament has been nothing but surprises–and Stan wins. From beginning to end, I was kept on my toes and that’s a good thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the drama. Thank you Sally for your prediction, responses, and encouragement–until next year.

      1. Interesting. I wonder how Novak feels after the tournament, whether it’s been good for him or not? Hopefully it’s boosted his confidence again even though he lost in the final.

    1. Thanks Mac. It’s been a strange tournament for sure. About to write my update as per usual at the beginning of the article. Some personal insights to include this time around πŸ™‚

  43. well stan has won the usopen. frankly both had very good transits on the day of the final the dasa system in vedic astrology(sidereal astrology)supported stan more than djokovic. for once sally got her prediction wrong. well you cannot win them all as djokovic found out. nevertheless sally has got an excellent record of correct predictions in predicting grand slams and am sure she will come roaring back at ao 2017.

    1. Thanks James! Yes, definitely didn’t get this one right. About to update the article – some personal astrology in there too πŸ™‚

  44. Hi Sally,

Thanks again for your analysis. Stan won but Djokovic was lucky to reach final..so your reading of chart holds. Also Angelique Kerber won and you can argue that she was not far from favorite. Hope to see you back for Australian Open. Thanks again.

PS: Hopefully Federer will be back and with good stars!!!

  45. Thank you for your update to the main article. This is where I started following you as a FAN Sally. It requires first of all, passion and more courage to predict and stand by it. 46. Dear Sally,

Just read your update, I hope you will continue doing predictions for us to read. I find your astrology is very interesting as the predictions doesn’t always plan out the way you want them to be. To be honest, I feel the same as you,my heart wasn’t with the USO as Roger wasn’t playing. PLEASE don’t stop doing these predictions as you can see from the comments that people were comparing them and that what make interesting. I have been coming on your site since 2012 when you predicted Roger winning Wimbledon. Let’s hope Roger will be back winning another Grand Slam. He said he will be back in January, his website is down at the moment.

Please keep us updated what you are going to do. But don’t stop! We got no-one who will do these predictions and comparing astrology.

  48. dear sally whether the prediction is coming correct or not the astrological insight you offer is tremendous and i have learned a lot from it.it is after all not easy to predict a grand slam winner as 128 players start the tournament and all 128 horoscopes are not available. despite this your track record is excellent.in the last 3 times when you did not get the winner right there was some mitigating circumstances.at ao 2014 wawrinka horoscope was not available. at uso 2014 cilic horoscope was not available and at rg2015 wrong birth time of nadal was in circulation.i am sure you will predict ao 2017 sucessfully. you may warm up by predicting atp finals in november. thank you once again.

  50. Sally, please don’t let a few silly trolls deter you from continuing with your astrological analysis of the slams.

Your record of correct predictions is wondrous, as anyone who has studied astrology would know. I’ve tried to predict the winners for some years now, and my correct predictions have been only a fraction of yours.

I read a number of astrology magazines, and I’ve seen the writers make many a wrong prediction on US presidential elections, etc. But it’s always interesting to see what factors they are using, what turns out to be most significant, how factors express.

The way I see it, I learn something new with each prediction I make, right or wrong. Astrology is a study for a lifetime, and the planets can always surprise us. It would be boring otherwise.

Thank you so much for offering your time, effort, and excellent insights to all of us. You are a treasure!

    1. Couldn’t get confirmation on this, but yes, a problem with his toe. Had a few minor injuries now this year. Interesting re. his Pluto transit. He’ll be glad when it’s over!

  52. dear sally the moon in the tournament chart was at mc and normally shows the favourite doing well. but the moon was very close to new moon and so not very strong. is this the reason the top 2 favourites did not win the championship.after all the winner wawrinka was the no 3 seed and can be considered the 3rd favourite. so it is not some unexpected player won the championship. just thinking out loud and trying to get some pointers from you. thank you.

    1. hi James, sorry for the late reply. I’m not sure about the New Moon symbolism as the Moon was in the sign before the New Moon. Maybe that matters? – not entirely convinced. Traditionally in astrology the Moon doing well picks out the favourite and the Moon definitely stood out in this chart, conjunct the Midheaven. Plus the first aspect was a positive trine aspect to Saturn. My interpretation of this is that it’s not going to be someone new (which would be Uranus) but someone ‘established’ or perhaps you could say ‘who’s won before’, which fits the Saturn symbolism. Wawrinka fits the bill. It will be interesting to note going forward whether this works.

      1. thanks for the reply sally. let us see how it works in future major tournaments. one request. please predict the atp finals in november. after all there are only the top 8 players competing.i am sure it will be very interesting and a warm up for ao 2017.thank you.

    1. Deirdre, thank you for reminding me. I’m only a few days back from a 5 day retreat so still slowly getting back into the real world! I will write something for you all but I might make it a different format this time. It’s getting harder to predict now the Big Four are dealing with age/injuries but I always like to try πŸ™‚

  53. That would great Sally, I am awaiting for your prediction. Can anyone tell me if there is another forum for the Federer fans astrology thread that was started on the old RF website? Thanks.

  54. I’m sorry, but TENNIS is bigger than Federer or any player and if you want to stop making predictions is fine, after all it’s free for all of us, however, if that’s the reason you want to stop, that makes you more A FANGIRL that someone who really loves this beautiful sport. For me, at least, it would be a stupid reason to stop.
I hope you can give me an answer.

    1. Some points in reply to your comment.
      1) I am first and foremost an astrologer. I’m lucky enough to have found my vocation in life and I make a living by running my online astrology business.
      2) I am also a tennis fan. Since 2012, I have offered the tennis predictions for free to combine my love of astrology and tennis. I have kept them going because I know there are a lot of people out there who love reading them.
      3) The tennis predictions take a lot of work, hours of work, looking at as many different tennis players’ charts as possible. That’s why I say it was easier with the Big Four as I could focus primarily on their charts.
      4) I am currently very busy with other astrology writing & client work and that is my priority. Whether I find the time and/or the desire to write a prediction for this year’s Grand Slams is entirely up to me. I can assure you it won’t be a decision I make lightly as I know so many people want to read them.
      5) Try to choose your words carefully before you accuse other people. You’re likely to get a better response if you do.
      Thank you.

      1. You wrote this: I began writing these predictions when Roger Federer won Wimbledon in 2012 with textbook astrology, lucky Jupiter exactly conjunct his Midheaven. I am pondering whether to stop writing the tennis predictions when Roger stops playing Grand Slams.

As I said earlier if you stop making tennis predictions is up to you and of course I understand that you, like me and many people, are very bussy with work and stuff. But I dont agree with your paragraph above: For me at least is a dumb reason to stop to do it. Forgive me if you take my opiniΓ³n rude or you think ,wrongly, my statement as an acussation. But you as a professional, have to deal not only with congratulations and good criticism but also with people like me who differ from the opinions expressed here. After all, there is freedom of expression in democracy. A tip for you and anyone you want to highlight in your field of work: Criticism helps grow and see what we are doing wrong. It is not necessary to take the different opinions to ours in a personal way, on the contrary, it is good to be able to discuss with others our points of view and to communicate to us that is the function of the language.
Hope this helps you positive way.
Postscript: Your idol, Federer, expects to play for at least a couple more years, so I think you can continue to make your predictions during that time.

        1. Hi again Robin. Now your criticism is in context as you have shown me what you reacted to. Criticism is always easier to respond to well when it is in context and there is appreciation for the other person’s efforts and the language is chosen carefully. A criticism which denotes frustration, uses strong language or worse, ridicule, is of course harder to accept and warrants a strong reaction. I’ve had both types and I know which I prefer πŸ™‚
I think I also need to explain my own comment about Federer further. Firstly, he is not my idol. He has always been one of my favourite players of recent years but I’m old enough to have had other favourites pre-Federer. I’m not a fan of one particular player but for me it’s a love of the game.
I will at some point stop writing the predictions, I know that. This is the 5th year and the astrology has been beautiful at times which is what I wanted to show, as well as indulge my own love of tennis and the predictions have been popular which I am grateful for. I felt it would be lovely symmetry to stop when Federer stops playing as it was because of a Federer fan that I started writing these predictions in the first place. So that’s what I meant by my comment. In reality Federer may well outlast my predictions and I hope he does.

  55. Hi Sally,
