Seeking Answers – The Road Less Travelled

There’s a new kid on the block this week as fleet-footed Mercury joins Venus in quick-thinking, quick-witted Gemini on Wednesday 15th. Both the Sun and action planet Mars remain in earthy Taurus but there’s a definitive sea-change underway.

Neptune squares

Sea-change being the operative word as Venus and Mercury square Neptune this week, God of the Sea. Venus is first on Monday 13th followed by Mercury on Saturday 18th. We are betwixt eclipses this week and the Neptune squares offer a chance to ponder what it all means for you. Gemini is the sign of communication but Neptune suggests there are many more ways of communicating than solely through words as this is the planet of dreams and images.

‘Twixt eclipses

The last two eclipses were in Scorpio and Taurus on April 25th and May 10th and the beginning of this week is a good time to start initiating changes or to begin to deal with whatever’s been going on for you. Taurus rules money and the physical world and Scorpio can be transforming when you let go of stuff or habits and wipe the slate clean in order to begin again or move on.

Neptune & inspiration

With Neptune in the mix this week you may experience some confusion or disillusionment and feel you’ve lost your way. Rather than despair, see if you can allow yourself the time and space to explore what’s out there as sometimes it’s when you go off track that magic happens and undiscovered gems emerge. Remember too that Neptune is the fantasy realm where creativity and imagination are brought to life through poetry, music, art and spirituality.

Let your mind wander, daydream, go with the flow and see where life leads when you take the road less travelled. Neptune’s influence flows more easily when there are no limits, you have no deadlines and you can follow your heart or a hunch to find your inspiration or inner muse.

This week’s eclipse at 19 Taurus 31 is close to last November’s eclipse at 21 Scorpio 57 reawakening similar themes. Taurus and Scorpio are at opposite sides of the zodiac but both are solar or New Moon eclipses and synonymous with fresh starts and new beginnings.

During an eclipse the energy’s intensified and whether you experience enforced change and a door closes in your life or you’re the one wielding the sword of power, it often feels like living life in the extreme.

Both myself and my other half are Scorpios so this is a powerful cycle of eclipses for us and I’ve been knee deep in Taurus/Scorpio symbolism over the last few days, sometimes literally. Add to the fact that the Sun and Moon in Taurus are next to Mercury (mind), Mars (action) and the South Node (habits/past) and we’re talking a huge emphasis on one sign. Here’s a quick guide to what Taurus and Scorpio, it’s polar opposite, represent.

Taurus/Scorpio

Taurus is the sign of money, what you possess and own but also what you value in life. It rules food and produce and in it’s highest meaning is synonymous with appreciation and gratitude for all that life has to offer. Ruling the physical world, it’s about savouring the simple pleasures and remembering to stop and smell the flowers.

Scorpio is associated with the metaphysical world and what’s beyond reality. Scorpio wants to go deep into an experience to understand it fully and to live life intensely. It’s the sign associated with regeneration and the cycle of life, death and rebirth.

In black and white terms, Taurus creates and Scorpio eliminates or destroys in order to rebuild from scratch, to wipe the slate clean and begin again so these are powerful signs for eclipse season. Here are some things I’ve been up to recently which fit this Taurus/Scorpio symbolism:

Gardening (Taurus) & Compost (Scorpio):

Scorpios rarely do things by halves and over the glorious Bank Holiday weekend I decided to tackle the garden and spent 12 hours in all weeding and digging over the veg patch. This is Taurus and Scorpio in action. Here’s the process in our house: eat food (Taurus), put veg and fruit peelings and other recyclable waste into the compost bin (Scorpio); months later dig out dark, rich, fertile & smelly compost and dig back into the soil (Scorpio). Plant seeds, watch veg grow and eat gorgeous home-grown food (Taurus).

Hoarding (Taurus) & De-cluttering (Scorpio):

In our society and especially when you have children, it’s so easy to constantly collect and amass stuff. Taurus wants and needs things for the sheer pleasure of owning and possessing them. Our house hit crisis point last week so we have started a major purge and de-clutter. Scorpios know instinctively that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure which is perhaps why I love car boot sales. It feels immensely satisfying seeing the delight in peoples’ faces when they find exactly what they want amongst your unwanted goods. They get a bargain (Taurus), you get rid of stuff (Scorpio) and make a bit of pocket money (Taurus) and it’s a win-win situation all round.

Food (Taurus) & Obsession (Scorpio)

Taurus loves food but with the onset of spring, there’s a trend towards cleansing and juicing. Admittedly I currently have both feet firmly in the Taurus camp (eating) and haven’t yet got round to a spring detox (Scorpio). Let’s just say, I’m considering starting a healthier diet next Monday, excellent timing for this week’s solar eclipse (see below).

I would also publicly like to admit to a recent obsession with Candy Crush on my I-phone and it was only when I read Jo Tracey’s blog on this recent craze that I realised how it fit beautifully the Taurus/Scorpio symbolism. The bloomin’ game is about food (Taurus) for heaven’s sake, removing jelly and bringing ingredients down the screen, and is it an obsession (Scorpio)? Oh yes. Thankfully I’ve already kicked my Candy Crush habit and played my last game yesterday.

What it means for you

If you have Taurus or Scorpio planets between 17-21 degrees, you’re likely to feel this eclipse more powerfully than others. Be alert to what’s happening in your own life and look into the dark shadows to see what can be brought into the light. There’s always the possibility of change with a solar eclipse and it’s a powerful time to create new intentions or let go of stuff that no longer serves you.

Traditionally, it’s wise to wait three days after an eclipse before initiating new habits, new behaviours or issuing ultimatums. Give yourself the weekend to heal, explore, come to terms with change or learn something new and by Monday be ready to swoosh into life again and set out on your new path.

Taurus (20 April-20 May)

When Mercury, planet of communication, moves into your sign of Taurus on the 1st of the month, it lines up alongside the Sun (self), Mars (action) and Venus (relating) all in your own sign. This is a stellar line up and a stunning start to your birthday month and the month of May.

When planets are in your own sign, the force is with you as this adds energy and confidence to your personal tool box. You’re the one in charge and the one who can call the shots.

In your solar chart, Taurus rules your physical body and your personal ambitions so this is the time to focus on you and to set some new intentions.

On the 10th there’s a powerful solar eclipse in Taurus, which is a New Moon but with extra punch. Eclipses are often about getting rid of dead wood and shedding what’s old and outdated in order to renew your life with fresh impetus and vigour. Taurus is the sign of natural beauty so it’s a perfect month to clear out your wardrobe, go for a new look, eat more healthily, get fit or do whatever’s necessary in order for you to feel in tip top condition inside and out.

Another important area of your life is relationships and in particular whoever is making things tough for you. This may be an ex, your boss or an authority figure. This is because of Saturn, the taskmaster of the heavens, currently in your opposite sign of Scorpio, where it’s been since autumn 2012. At the end of last month, Saturn was especially dominant between the 22nd-28th April and on the 1st of this month, Saturn opposes Mars in your sign.

A Mars-Saturn opposition can indicate a stand-off as it’s the equivalent of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Two tough opponents going head to head with neither one prepared to back down. This aspect is followed on the 5th by a Mercury-Saturn opposition which suggests someone saying ‘No’ to your needs or wants or a legal or official block or denial.

If this situation rings true in your own life, then the eclipse in your sign on the 10th is the break-through point. Eclipses are often about external circumstances and the wheel of fate turning to move life on. This time with so many personal planets on your side, it feels as if the eclipse can work for you and you’re more in control. If you can harness its strength and power and stand firm for what you believe in and what you deserve, you may be able to move mountains. One way or another, a New Moon eclipse in your own sign suggests a powerful turning point and a chance to put yourself first.

This is also a brilliant month for money matters with Jupiter, planet of opportunity, blessing your personal money sector. Jupiter moved into Gemini back in June 2012 and at the end of next month it will leave this part of your chart and take residence elsewhere. There are two especially lucky dates in May; one is the 18th when Venus, your ruler, teams up with Uranus, a brilliant day to follow a hunch or trust your intuition and second is the 28th when Venus and Jupiter light up the sky at the same point in the heavens.

Joining them is Mercury (communication) so whatever you want to ask for or make happen, here’s your chance. Venus rules love and money and this trio of planets feels especially lucky. They’ll be visible in the night sky too so look out for the three of them close together low in the night sky. Be expansive, open your heart and have faith that you will attract what you need.

The only note of caution on the financial front is a second eclipse cutting across your money axis on the 25th. This is a lunar or Full Moon eclipse which often brings matters to a head. It feels emotional and dramatic and with Neptune in on the act, ensure that you’re not lead astray or swayed by a sob story or too-good-to-be-true cash offer. Nothing is what it seems when Neptune’s in on the act although Neptune calls forth your compassionate and caring side. Separate fantasy from fact and keep your feet firmly placed on the ground over the weekend of the 25th/26th.

When it comes to love and relationships, you may already suspect that this isn’t an insignificant time for love. Saturn in your opposite sign and last month’s eclipse on the 25th cutting across your relationship axis suggests doors closing for some or the knowledge that a ‘good enough’ relationship may no longer be enough when it comes to love.

If in doubt, put yourself first and even if it means a painful decision, remember that life is short and you deserve to be loved and loved well. Even in the best of relationships, you may have to deal with the more serious issues in life but use this to strengthen the relationship and support each other. Any commitment that’s made at this time is likely to last.

Gemini (21 May-20 June)

The month begins slowly or gently with three of the personal planets in the sign before yours, Taurus, and your ruler Mercury joins them on the 1st. This hidden sector of your chart rules secrets, things going on behind the scenes and retreat.

You may be out of action or caught up with a busy life that allows little time to do more than anything essential. The energy turns inward with planets in this sector of your chart and focuses your attention on unfinished business.

Saturn currently opposes the Taurus planets from the sign of Scorpio ruling your work, routine and health and as Saturn slows things down, it’s likely to be one of these areas which is the reason why life is on go slow.

Take note of what happens on or around the 1st and 5th when first Mars, planet of action, and secondly Mercury, planet of communication, are opposed by Saturn. You may find an obstacle in your path, be up against authority, your own fear or doubt or simply find your options are limited.

The turning point comes on the 10th when there’s a solar or New Moon eclipse in the sign of Taurus. This is a tipping point, a break-through and a chance to close a door on the past and start afresh. Eclipses often involve external circumstances as they bring what’s hidden to light. There’s an intense energy on or around an eclipse date and often a compulsive desire to act and make something happen.

As this eclipse takes place in the most hidden sector of your chart, this may involve a secret, letting go of a habit or addiction or a deeply personal event. It suggests that something has to be let go of in order for you to be able to move on.

After this date things begin to move quickly and it’s a positive and lively picture, quite the opposite from the first ten days. Venus, planet of love and relating, enters Gemini the day before the eclipse and on the 15th, Mercury, your ruler, also moves into your sign. Heading towards your birthday month, the planets begin to build in Gemini, adding energy and confidence to the mix. With the love planet Venus in your sign it’s a brilliant time to date, meet someone new and make love a priority. Mercury gives you the gift of the gab so be flirtatious and use your Gemini wit to attract admirers.

Venus and Mercury together are sociable and fun and when they meet up with the planet of spontaneity, Uranus, on the 18th and 21st, take the initiative. Whatever you want to ask for, do it; whoever you want to see more of in your life, make things happen. Uranus is in your friendship sector so catch up with old friends, especially if you’ve not seen some of your closest friends for a while.

The real peak dates of the month, however, are the 27th and 28th, when first Mercury and then Venus connect with Jupiter, the planet of good fortune and opportunity. Jupiter’s been in Gemini since last June 2012 and will move on from your sign at the end of next month. This is the last blast of Jupiter energy so make the most of it. Jupiter’s an expansive quality, ruling foreign connections, travel, study, religion, publishing and the Law. It’s the planet of good times and if you’re involved in any of the above areas of life, this combination signals success. You will be able to see the three planets, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter, together in the night sky so do look out for them and make a wish.

The Sun enters Gemini on the 20th and connects with Jupiter next month but for now the Sun is moving towards another eclipse with the Moon. This takes place on the 25th and it’s an emotional lunar or Full Moon eclipse square to Neptune. This is the last eclipse in the eclipse cycle that began in December 2010 cutting across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. It’s about you and your relationship with key one-on-ones in your life. This may be your partner, an ex or someone else who plays a significant role, a parent or boss perhaps and the eclipse suggests this is crunch time. A big decision needs to be made and there may be a new arrangement or important factor to consider.

Of course, what comes your way depends on your personal situation but eclipses can flag up a triangle situation when 3 into 2 won’t fit, or the need to close a door on the past so you can move on. Engage your heart and soul and be honest about your own feelings and open to hearing what someone close has to say. With Neptune, the watery planet, connected to this eclipse, this does feel deeply emotional but be aware that Neptune is more about fantasy than reality.

The plus side of Neptune is that it brings fantastic ideas and creativity and Neptune is currently at the top of your chart ruling your career and vocation. So this would be a wonderful weekend for a spiritual or creative retreat or workshop. As long as you keep your feet on the ground and don’t disappear into the ether, put Neptune’s creative and compassionate vibe to good use.

Cancer (21 June-22 July)

Once Mercury, planet of communication, moves into Taurus on the 1st, four of the personal planets are in this same sector of your chart ruling your friends, social life, clubs and the wider community.

This is your cue to get out into the big wide world, catch up with old friends, make new friends, seek out like-minded types and feel supported and uplifted by your connections with other people.

The last comment is especially pertinent as Saturn is currently opposing the planets in Taurus and when Saturn’s about this is often an indication that this is where you may encounter problems.

Saturn is the boss, the taskmaster of the heavens and wherever Saturn is in your chart, you may come up against limitation or experience fear or doubt.

This can play out in different ways in your own life but firstly consider your friendships, which friends you enjoy being with and whether you’re around some people who have a negative vibe or tend to put you down. If there’s someone in your life or a whole group of people who just aren’t doing it for you and who you know are not in your best interests, then this is decision time and some of you will be moving on.

Another possible scenario is a good friend who’s going through a tough patch and needs your support and advice. Be there for them but keep boundaries firmly in place and take good care of yourself as well.

The tipping point comes on the 10th when there’s a solar or New Moon eclipse in Taurus and your friendship sector. Eclipses can bring something hidden to light so you may hear a revelation on or around this date that affects you or a friend. More importantly, however, a New Moon eclipse is a chance to wipe the slate clean and begin again. It’s an important time of renewal for friendships or your association with a group, club or society.

Saturn is in Scorpio and dominant on the 1st and 5th of the month. Other areas under Saturn’s stern gaze are children, creativity and new romance. These are often billed the good things in life and Saturn does on the one hand promote discipline and commitment but again it can flag up issues that need careful handling. Be firm but fair with children and if they’re struggling with a particular issue, make the time to be there for them. Slow but steady often wins the race when Saturn’s around so whether you’re trying to get pregnant or you’ve met someone new, be patient and determined and know that you can’t rush things.

Where creativity’s concerned Saturn can be the equivalent of writer’s block, but the way to work with Saturn is to do things little and often. Create a regular routine whatever you’re working towards and remember that it can take hours to master a musical instrument or write a novel. Don’t give up but keep your eye on the long term goal and take one step at a time in the right direction. There are some lovely stories on the net about people who made incredible progress by devoting 15/20 minutes a day to a hobby or creative goal. It’s sometimes the things in life that you do find tough which are worth pursuing.

As the month progresses, the personal planets begin to move into Gemini, the sign before yours. Venus, the planet of love and relating, is first on the 9th and this makes love private for whatever reason. You may be involved in an affair, be in love with someone who’s unavailable or find that love’s simply on the back burner in life. It’s not a priority or not working out for now. Be patient if this is the case as once Venus enters Cancer on June 3rd, your luck changes.

Mercury follows Venus into Gemini on the 15th and the Sun completes the picture on the 20th. A lot of this month’s astrology points towards a need to slow down and take it easy and planets in Gemini and your hidden sector are part of the reason why. You may find your energy’s depleted or you’re living in your head with a lot to think about. Take your time and don’t let anyone rush you if you need time out or time alone to think. Do ask for help, however, if and when you need it.

The weekend of the 25th/26th looks potentially emotional as there’s a lunar or Full Moon eclipse. Being ruled by the Moon, you are sensitive to the moon’s phases so be kind to yourself and let yourself be supported, loved or looked after, whatever it is you need. Jupiter in your hidden sector is strong on the 27th/28th and this can signal good karma that returns to you or a fairy godmother, someone who’s on your side and reminds you that there are good people in the world. In a similar vein, if you feel an urge to care for others, the end of the month is a wonderful time to help a charity or people worse off than yourself.

Leo (23 July-22 August)

This is an important month for you, Leo, for a number of reasons. Firstly the personal planets are stacked together at the top of your chart as the month begins.

Mercury (communication) joins the Sun, your ruler, Venus (relating) and Mars (action) in Taurus on the 1st and the spotlight’s on your career, your vocation and where you’re heading in life. This is about being in the public eye, being busy and making some key decisions about what next.

The situation is complicated somewhat because Saturn opposes the planets in Taurus down at the base of your chart. This suggests that there may be another person involved, either your other half or a boss or a business partner.

They have their own needs and agenda and may want to slow down your progress for whatever reason. Saturn tends to answer No rather than Yes so you’re going to have to fight to prove your determination to achieve your chosen goals.

For some of you, there are factors to consider that tie you to home and family; an elderly parent, childcare to negotiate, issues to do with where you live. These are some of the possibilities but Saturn may play out in other ways in your own life, connected to your family, your home or your connection to the past. You can pursue a career goal but not without taking certain home or family matters into consideration.

Whether you’re in work or out of work, this is a big month for your career and the tipping point comes on the 10th when there’s a solar or New Moon eclipse in Taurus. Being ruled by the Sun this is a powerful marker for you. Eclipses are often dramatic as someone or something may be eclipsed from your life or new information or a new situation comes to light. A New Moon eclipse suggests you need to close one door in order to begin a new chapter. You have to let go or move on in some way in order to create a sense of renewal and a chance to start afresh.

With Saturn in the mix, you may have to compromise what you want; you can have this, but you can’t have the other. However, as so many of the personal planets oppose Saturn on this date, this suggests the right move is to put your ambitions first and make a new job or role your starting point. This is one of your best months this year to move your career or vocation in the direction you choose.

As the month continues, the planets begin to move into the sign of Gemini, ruling friends, groups and the wider community. Venus is there from the 9th, Mercury from the 15th, followed by your ruler the Sun on the 20th. Where work’s concerned, this is about spreading your net wide, networking, making new connections and turning to others for support and advice.

Venus and Mercury are sociable planets together so hang out with your friends and make new friends as this is where inspiration and opportunity lies. This month there’s a real possibility of good news, an unexpected offer or an exciting opportunity you can’t resist. On the 18th and 21st, first Venus and then Mercury connect with the planet Uranus in your travel and study sector. These dates are brilliant for being spontaneous and adventurous. A weekend away with friends, expanding your horizons via a talk, being inspired at a museum or gallery: anything that’s fun and different.

The best dates, however, are the 27th/28th when first Mercury and then Venus team up with lucky planet Jupiter. Jupiter’s been in Gemini and your friendship sector since June 2012 and will move on at the end of next month. Before it does so, it connects with Mercury and Venus this month and your ruler the Sun next month. For you this may involve a celebration, a school reunion, reconnecting with friends or making new friends.

Luck comes via other people and in particular a group or community in which you’re involved. Jupiter rules spirituality, travel and the greater good. Become involved in a charity, link up with like-minded people and do something that’s either purely joyful or deeply meaningful. Jupiter’s on your side.

The only wobble at month’s end is the weekend of 25th/26th when there’s one more eclipse, a lunar or Full Moon eclipse cutting across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. In addition, this Full Moon squares Neptune making this a potentially emotional couple of days. With Neptune in one of your money sectors, avoid anything financial on or around this date and don’t be swayed by a sob story or be sucked in by a get-rich-quick scheme.

On the other hand, if you’re invited to a glamorous event or you’re attending a charitable, creative or spiritual workshop, then Neptune’s on your side. Neptune is the planet most closely associated with fantasy, and if you want a hedonistic escape from reality or to tap into your compassionate, generous-hearted nature, then go for it. Just don’t sign away your millions in the process!

Virgo (23 August-22 September)

Your ruling planet Mercury is on a quick romp through the zodiac this month taking in four signs. On the 1st, Mercury leaves Aries and moves into Taurus, ruling travel, study and any activity that broadens your horizons. On the 15th, Mercury enters Gemini and your career sector and finally on the 31st, Mercury moves on again into the water sign of Cancer.

The two main areas to note this month are the areas mentioned above and this month’s two eclipses also focus on these same areas of your life.

Let’s start with Taurus as this is where four of the personal planets are in the heavens, once Mercury joins them on the 1st. You often feel restless when planets are in this sector of your chart, whether you want a holiday, need something new to get your teeth into or you’re thinking about study, a spiritual project or something more creative.

Taurus is a fellow earth sign so it’s a promising period to think big and try out a new adventure or do something different. May is potentially your most successful month of the year and most great things in life start by saying ‘Yes’. Move out of your comfort zone, explore new surroundings, and experiment with opening your mind, your heart and your soul.

If there’s a little voice inside you that doubts whether you can achieve half of what you want to do, then take note. In astrology, this little voice is a rather mighty planet called Saturn in your communication sector. Saturn can represent real blocks and limitations but it’s also the planet of fear so it’s likely that it’s your own thoughts holding you back. If this is the case, find ways to turn negatives into positives and to overcome what’s stopping you.

Coaching may help, talk to someone you admire or make contact with an influential role model; someone you know will inspire you. Whatever or whoever in life is holding you back; find ways to work round any limitations so you can make the most of what’s currently on offer to you.

On the 10th there’s a powerful solar or New Moon eclipse in Taurus and eclipses are often turn-around moments. When you look back on your life, you realise that what you began on or around the time of the eclipse had a big effect on what happened next. So whether you sign up to a course, book a holiday or make progress in the media, publishing or the legal world, it’s a pivotal moment.Admittedly, eclipses can be dramatic and sometimes you have a door closed on you before you see where your options lie and what’s available to you. It’s a powerful time to let go of what’s stopping you so you can move on in your life.

Once Mercury’s in Gemini on the 15th, things start to pick up for you and there’s a huge opportunity to do something quite spectacular with your career, your vocation or being in the public eye and this is your five minutes of fame. The main reason for this is Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, in Gemini and your career sector where it’s been since June 2012.

Jupiter’s going to move on at the end of the next month but before then it connects with Mercury and Venus on the 27th/28th respectively and the Sun next month. The 27th/28th are stellar dates for career success and a real high five moment. Don’t forget that Jupiter rules expansion so you need to put something in to get something back.

This feels such a lucky combination and as all three bodies, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter, will be visible in the night sky, track them down and make a wish. Whether you want more freedom, more money, more acknowledgement or simply more success, the end of the month is a real go-for-it period when you ask for what you want.

The only shadow at the end of the month involves the second eclipse of May on the 25th which falls across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. This is a lunar or Full Moon eclipse and the last in an eclipse cycle that began in December 2010. This feels emotional as not only is it a Full Moon but Neptune, the watery planet, squares the Sun and Moon. This brings your family or your partner into the equation and it may be that someone’s not as happy for your success as you would like or expect. Either that or it’s a huge sob fest with everyone hugging and wailing in celebration.

Libra (23 September-23 October)

Your ruling planet Venus begins the month in earthy steady Taurus. This is a place Venus feels comfortable as Taurus is one of the signs that rules money and love. Venus in Taurus craves security and stability and wants to build relationships and alliances so that love and money are in plentiful supply. Sharing what you have helps you feel more secure and brings more enjoyment into your life as well. That’s the ideal.

The reality may look somewhat different as Saturn is currently in Scorpio and your personal money sector and opposing the Taurus planets. Saturn is the taskmaster of the heavens, the big boss, and Saturn isn’t known as a planet of plenty. In fact, it can be the opposite as Saturn represents hardship, nose to the grindstone and working hard to make ends meet.

Saturn entered Scorpio last autumn and will remain here until the end of next year so whatever your personal financial situation, there will be lessons to learn along the way, some of them tough and some of them helpful and constructive. Thinking long-term about your financial future is wise with Saturn in your money sector and making plans to keep regular money coming in is a good idea. Slow and steady often wins the race when Saturn’s around and there may be lessons to learn concerning what you need and what you can do without.

It helps you to be cash savvy this month and to ensure you know what’s what when it comes to mortgages, interest rates, loans, tax, etc. If there’s a financial deal that you’re currently involved in, pay close attention, read the small print and be thorough in your research. This is because on the 10th there’s a solar or New Moon eclipse in Taurus and your joint money sector.

Eclipses can mean that something’s taken away, in other words, something is ‘eclipsed’. It’s obvious symbolism and may play out that way. Certainly the eclipse signals a powerful time for anything finance-related whether new information comes to light or you have to close the door on the past in order to move on. Astrology suggests it’s not a good time to begin anything new until the eclipse is past so hold tight to your cash and wait until after the 10th to take action. You can come out of any money-related deal on top as long as you’re willing to share what you have and own with others.

Venus leaves Taurus the day before the eclipse which is another indication that it’s time for you to move on and let go of anything that’s no longer working for you financially. A new way of being and doing things is required that allows you more freedom to move.

Venus enters Gemini, a fellow air sign, which rules travel, study and any area of life that allows you to expand your mind and broaden your horizons. This is the time to think big and seek out a new adventure. Wherever you’ve been feeling trapped, from mid-month onwards the way ahead opens to you as if by magic and suddenly life allows you room to breathe.

Mercury (communication) joins Venus in Gemini on the 15th followed by the Sun on the 20th but most importantly, the planet of opportunity, Jupiter is currently in this sign. Jupiter moved into Gemini in June 2012 and will leave this sign at the end of next month but before then Jupiter teams up with Mercury and Venus on the 27th/28th respectively.

This feels fabulously lucky and fortunate whether you find the perfect holiday, win a travel competition, you’re accepted on to your dream course or any other number of joyful experiences. The combination of Venus, Mercury and Jupiter spells good fortune and the trio will be visible in the night sky so track them down and make a wish.

What takes place towards the end of the month may bring significant changes to your everyday lifestyle. A second lunar or Full Moon eclipse cuts across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis on the 25th and if you’re feeling disillusioned with your work or routine, take note of what opportunities come your way on or around this time. Something you do or someone you meet gives you the inspiration you need to set you on a new path.

It may feel emotional when you realise what you want out of life and what’s going to bring you a deep level of fulfilment. This could link to teaching others, a spiritual path, helping other people or simply bettering yourself. Whatever it is will be deeply personal.

Scorpio (24 October-21 November)

May’s lining up to be a powerful month and whether it’s a key relationship in your life that dominates or your interaction with other people in general which marks May as a turn-around time, the intensity’s cranked up.

As the month begins, four of the personal planets are in your opposite sign of Taurus; your ruling planet Mars (action & libido), Venus (love), Mercury (communication) and the Sun (self). It’s a heady mix and if you’re married or in a relationship, the heat is on.

What this means for you depends entirely on your current situation. If you’re head over heels in love, you’re heading for a proposal or major turning point in your relationship. If you’re in a long-term relationship or married, what takes place in your partner’s life has a knock on effect in your own life.

Out of love and it may be another powerful individual in your life whose influence is closely tied or linked to your own destiny. The reason for this being such a powerful time is the fact that there are not only four key planets in Taurus but on the 10th there’s a solar or New Moon eclipse in the same sign.

Eclipses are powerful as you feel compelled to make a decision or take a stand. Something or someone may be eclipsed or a door may be closed on the past but what’s important with a solar eclipse is that it’s a chance to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. It signals a major turning point with regard to your relationships so that when you look back in years to come, you realise the significance of those events.

When planets are in your opposite sign, you may find that energetically you feel weakened and other people hold the power or control. For some, the start of May shows you who or what you’re up against as Mars, your ruler, opposes Saturn in Scorpio on the 1st. These two together are gritty and determined but as Saturn also opposes Mercury (communication) on the 5th, this suggests confrontation and someone saying ‘No’. This is especially important as what’s put in place early in May will decide how well you prosper as the month progresses. It may mean having to ensure your needs are met either in a work, legal or romantic situation. The most important day is the 5th when your co-rulers Mars and Pluto link together in the heavens and with Pluto in your communication zone, this is why asking for what you want is so powerful and potentially transformative.

Mars remains in Taurus until the 31st so you will have to continue to work at a relationship throughout the month although Mars promises passion as well as conflict. If you’re a typical Scorpio, you’re not someone who can put up with any problem or issue for long. You’d rather get in there and try and sort things out.

Mid-month the other personal planets start to filter into the sign of Gemini: Venus on the 9th, Mercury on the 15th and the Sun on the 20th. This puts the focus on shared resources, payments and money matters. One other planet that’s already in Gemini is Jupiter, planet of good fortune and opportunity, and Jupiter’s been in this sector of your chart since June 2012 although it moves on at the end of next month.

This is the grand finale and when Jupiter teams up with Mercury and Venus on the 27th/28th respectively, get ready for a major fanfare. This spells good news for money matters, whether a legal or financial deal goes your way, you have extra money coming in that you didn’t expect or some other gift from the heavens.

If you’re looking for work, these are turbulent times but both the 18th and the 21st indicate a win, especially if, on or around these dates, you speak up less rather than more. A lucky break or a one-off contract is a strong possibility and if you’re in a relationship or married, it may be good fortune that comes your partner’s way which has a knock on effect in your own life. Venus is your partner planet and it teams up with Uranus on the 18th and Jupiter on the 28th. Circle these dates in your diary.

The only shadow involves a second eclipse cutting across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis of your chart on the 25th. This is your money axis and love and money feel especially emotional on or around this time. Neptune, the watery planet, is involved squaring the Full Moon so there’s an abundance of emotion and feelings. If you meet someone new on or around this date, keep your eyes wide open and be wary if this person shows signs of being clueless with cash. Same goes if you’re approached by someone with a fanciful idea or money earner.

The thing to remember about Neptune is that you’re often dealing with fantasy rather than reality so use your common sense whatever comes your way. If you receive a too-good-to-be-true offer, wait a couple of days before making a decision and at least give yourself the weekend to think things through. Do your research thoroughly, talk to other people whether they think it’s a good idea and then make up your mind. It’s not necessarily all bad as long as you have a clever strategy and a clear sense of purpose and motivation.

Sagittarius (22 November-21 December)

As the month begins, there are four personal planets in Taurus, the sign that rules everyday work, routine and health in your chart. This is where the work’s at but even though you may have to knuckle down to get things done, there’s a good chance of being productive and make progress.

Taurus is one of the earth signs and this favours being in a routine or job for the long haul. Keep doing what you’re doing day in, day out and you’re going to see results. This applies to health and fitness as much as it does to changing a habit or working towards an end goal.

Saturn remains in Scorpio, the sign before yours in the zodiac, and the hidden sector of your chart. When it comes to health, the mind-body-spirit connection is as important as physical fitness and when it comes to work, what’s going on behind the scenes is the key to your success.

Saturn in this sector of your chart may slow you down for one reason or another and if this is the case for you, try and work with Saturn rather than against it. Take your time and do things slowly; don’t sweat the small stuff and take good self care. The key to your well-being lies in paying attention to your thoughts, feelings and even your dreams. This is the realm of the subconscious that’s asking to be heard.

For some, there is a strong possibility that work and money matters are going to turn significantly for you and there are a couple of reasons for this. Sometimes there’s also an opportunity to take advantage of another person’s loss as eclipses often represent triangle situations; one person wins and another person loses so position yourself strategically in order to be on the winning team.

The other big news this month is love and romance and for some this is going to be one of the best months this year. Venus, planet of love, moves into Gemini and your relationship sector on the 9th followed by Mercury on the 15th and the Sun on the 20th. Venus and Mercury are the important planets for you as Venus rules love and Mercury is your partner planet. These two are a double act throughout the month of May and what one does, the other isn’t far behind. Together they’re sociable, lively and fun.

If you’re looking for love sit up and take notice on the 18th and 21st when first Venus and then Mercury team up with impulsive Uranus in Aries and your romance sector. This is a double whammy of romantic vibes so why not make the most of it and ask someone out on a date.

The real excitement, however, comes on the 27th/28th when first Mercury and then Venus team up with your ruling planet Jupiter. This feels totally celebratory and for some it means a proposal of marriage or falling head over heels in love again or for the first time. Jupiter has been in Gemini and your opposite sign since June 2012 and at the end of next month Jupiter moves on. This is the grand finale and Jupiter’s left the best till last.

There is also a lunar or Full Moon eclipse towards the end of the month on the 25th cutting across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis and again this feels powerful. The Full Moon is square to Neptune so you may find that your family or the past are somehow involved. This is the last eclipse in an eclipse cycle that began in December 2010 so it symbolises the end of a chapter in your life and a chance to say goodbye and close a door on the past.

As this eclipse falls close to the gorgeous trio of planets in Gemini, this may prove to be a powerful turning point. Venus, Mercury and Jupiter will all be visible in the night sky so track them down and when you see the trio together make a wish. There’s magic in the air as May comes to a close.
