Britain’s Got Talent is one of British television’s biggest talent shows with wannabe stars of any age eligible to audition in front of the judges.
The age of the contestants has so far ranged from 4 years old to 92 years old and the show isn’t restricted to human auditions but has seen many performing animals on the stage.
The contestants are bidding to win a huge cash prize, plus a spot on the annual Royal Variety Performance and for the lucky few, a step up the ladder towards fame and fortune.
Britain’s Got Talent (also known as BGT) was first televised in 2007 and this year, 2015, is the ninth series of the show. BGT has been re-commissioned until 2016 which will be it’s 10th anniversary. This year, the talent continues to be incredibly diverse and once again, the show has grabbed the attention of the nation.
Simon Cowell
The show’s creator is the ultimate talent spotter and businessman Simon Cowell who also resides on the panel of judges. Simon Cowell (b. October 7 1959) is a Libran, one of the air signs, and the sign of the zodiac that makes the perfect judge. Libra’s zodiac symbol is the Scales of justice and a Libran is expert at weighing up the pros and cons to make a measured and intelligent decision.
Being one of the air signs, Libra is a people person and it’s through their interaction with other people that their own identity develops. Librans flourish in life via their connection with 1-to-1 relationships. Simon obviously loves his role as judge and you can literally see the ‘dollar signs’ in his eyes when he discovers who he believes will be the next big star for his record label and production company.
Extroverts v. Introverts
In astrology, star signs are divided into two camps, the ‘extroverts’ and the ‘introverts’. The extrovert signs are the six air and fire signs, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius (air) and Aries, Leo, Sagittarius (fire). The basic motivation of this group of signs is external and their impulse is to interact with the world and to make things happen.
The other group of six signs are the ‘introverts’, the earth and water signs, Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn (earth) and Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces (water). Their basic motivation is internal and their main focus tends towards personal concerns and their emotional well-being and stability.
The Judges
Talent shows attract more ‘extrovert’ types than ‘introverts’ and this repeats itself on the judging panel for Britain’s Got Talent. In 2012, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams joined Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden in the current line-up. Alesha Dixon (b. October 7 1978) is another Libran with the same birthday as Simon Cowell, David Walliams (b. August 20 1971) is a fun-loving Leo and Amanda Holden (b. February 16 1971) is an Aquarius, a socially-oriented air sign.
The other long-standing judge who was with the show from 2007-2010 is Piers Morgan, who left BGT to front his own chat show in the USA. Piers Morgan (b. March 30 1965) is also one of the ‘extrovert’ signs, a fiery and sometimes controversial Aries.
The only judges to last one season were Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff who teamed up with Amanda Holden on the judging panel in 2011. Michael McIntyre (b. February 21 1976) is a Pisces and David Hasselhoff (b. July 17 1952) a Cancerian, both water signs and not the right balance for this show of ‘extroverts’.
The Winners
Do you remember all the winners? There are some big names amongst them and yet again, the air and fire signs, the ‘extroverts’ of the zodiac dominate the list:
2007: Paul Potts (b. October 13 1970), Libra. The first winner of the show was an opera singer who worked for a brand-name mobile phone company. He has since become a millionaire and a globally successful tenor. There’s even been a film made about his life story entitled One Chance (released October 2013) starring comedian James Corden as Paul Potts.
2008: George Sampson (b. June 29 1993), Cancer. The young street dancer is a water sign and a change in form from the winning ‘extroverts’. He did famously dance to ‘Singing in the Rain’ with rather a lot of water in his final act. He’s since gone on to become a regular in the school drama, Waterloo Road.
2009: Diversity Group acts have been popular winners on BGT but none more so successful than the brilliant street dance group, Diversity. Ashley Banjo (b. October 4 1988) is their charismatic choreographer and lead dancer and another Libran, now a judge himself on Sky TV’s Got To Dance.
2010: Spelbound Another group act won in 2010, a young gymnastic troupe. No birth data.
2011: Jai McDowall (b. July 24 1986), Leo. Jai McDowall, a singer, is probably the least-remembered winner of BGT but true to ‘extrovert’ type, he’s a Sun Leo.
2012: Ashleigh & Pudsey Simon Cowell always wanted to discover a dancing dog act and in 2012 he found one and then some. Pudsey’s young owner, Ashleigh Butler (b. February 6 1995) is an air sign, Aquarius, an ‘extrovert’ sign and Pudsey the dog (b. December 28 2005) is an earth sign, Capricorn. Pudsey hasn’t done too badly for himself and typical of an ambitious Capricorn (!), he’s become Britain’s richest dog worth £10 million. In May 2014, he even starred in his own movie, Pudsey, voiced by BGT’s very own David Walliams.
2013: Attraction A Hungarian shadow theatre group won in 2013 with a patriotically British-themed performance which included ‘Land of Hope & Glory’ and the voice of Sir Winston Churchill. No birth data.
2014: Collabro Another group act who sung ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables in their semi-final. Five boys: Michael Auger (b. March 6 1990), Pisces; Richard Hadfield (b. December 1 1993), Sagittarius; Jamie Lambert (b. June 19 1989), Gemini; Matt Pagan (b. July 25 1993), Leo; Thomas Redgrave (b. August 28 1989), Virgo. The extroverts sneak it, three signs to two.
Susan Boyle
One person missing off the winner’s list is the most famous and successful contestant ever to appear on Britain’s Got Talent. That lady is of course, Susan Boyle (b. April 1 1961) an Aries, who appeared on the show in 2009 and came runner-up to the dance act Diversity. Being a Sun Aries, she was a controversial figure on the show and the presenters, Ant and Dec, never knew quite what she was going to do or say.
There is a time of birth for Susan Boyle which shows she has a Cancer Ascendant which fits her profile as she came across as shy and unassuming. She famously sang ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ to a stunned audience who didn’t expect a frumpy-looking middle-aged woman to have such a powerful and incredible voice.
After the show her debut album, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ instantly became the UK’s best-selling debut album of all time, she’s now sold over 19 million records, has received two Grammy nominations and is a household name internationally.
Susan Boyle’s Moon at 12 Libra 53 is at the same place in the heavens as Simon Cowell’s Sun at 13 Libra 28. This means they have what’s called in astrology a cosmic marriage. It’s an instant connection and though primarily it’s found in the charts of lovers, it indicates an immediate likeability and rapport between two people and Simon Cowell has always backed his most successful BGT contestant.
On the night of the final which took place on May 30 2009, there was a double nodal connection between Susan Boyle’s chart and the astrology at the time of the final. The nodes are karmic points in astrology and as the final began, the Moon was at 4 Virgo conjunct Susan’s natal north node at 4 Virgo.
