Mars starts the month down at the base of your chart in the sign of Aquarius putting the focus on home and family, your past and where you come from. Yet Jupiter stands opposite Mars in Leo and your career sector drawing you onward and upward.
This is an exciting combination for planning ahead and considering the big moves you’re ready and willing to make as a new year begins. This may involve a change of scene, going global or looking to move abroad. Certainly it encompasses adventure and a go-getting attitude. Be bold and courageous and strike out in new directions.
The first few days of 2015 are especially powerful as there’s a Full Moon growing in the heavens that cuts across the Cancer/Capricorn axis of your chart urging you to consider the bigger questions in life. The Full Moon is exact on Monday 5th but the Uranus-Pluto square links in to this Full Moon in a powerful configuration and the whole first weekend is caught up with this lively energy.
If you begin the year decluttering, detoxing and/or letting go, whatever fits for you, you’re in tune with this planetary combination. The bigger questions may unsettle you, there may be arguments or disagreements that erupt unexpectedly but be willing to wrestle a little with your conscience or your desire to seek out a deeper level of meaning. Money too is linked in to this potential battle that’s going on whether you’re debating what money and materialism mean to you or whether you’re wondering what the year holds, how to pay off debts, how to save for the things that really matter to you and how to get savvy about cash. Saturn, the ‘get real’ planet, is now in Sagittarius and the money sector of your chart. This month Saturn is in helpful aspect to key planets and it’s through your past, your home or family that you find the solutions you seek.
Saturn in Sagittarius asks you to make a long-term plan and do whatever’s necessary for you to feel safe and secure. You may be discussing a mortgage, an inheritance or investment, pooling resources with family members or making moves at home or with regard to property that will help you in the long run. Aquarius rules the home and family sector of your chart and Aquarius is the community sign. Think outside of the box and see how the theme of collaboration can help you achieve stability and a more secure foundation.
Changes at work and with regard to your everyday lifestyle can also be put in place now and help you feel you’re on the right track. The 13th and 14th are especially lively for new work beginnings and unexpected opportunities that pop up. However, the day after the New Moon on the 21st, Mercury, the planet of communication, turns retrograde and is on go slow until February 11th. Traditionally, this is a time to slow down the pace and put off making big decisions until Mercury picks up speed again mid-February. You may have to play a waiting game, be patient and you could find that you change your own mind whilst Mercury is retrograde.
Use this time productively to take a trip down memory lane and to explore your options with regard to home, family and your heritage. You may feel compelled to revisit your past in some way, to commune with your elders and to focus on where you’re from and how you’ve been moulded by the past. Look to your legacy and what you’re leaving behind. This can be a profound time of discovery for you, wanting to share your own wisdom or your stories and reconnect the past with the future.
Yet Mercury retrograde can be frustrating too but sometimes you have to undergo a period of confusion or unclarity before answers appear to you and you feel ready to move on. Use the timing of astrology to guide you and know that what you begin early in January will come to fruition late February and/or early March.
Finally this month, there’s romance in the air as first Mars, your ruler, moves into Pisces on the 12th followed by Venus on the 27th. Venus and Mars, the lovers of the heavens, are never far apart in 2015 and this is a key year for love. Pisces rules romance in your own chart so consider what love means to you and actively put more romance into your life. Mars and Neptune connect in Pisces on the 20th but this may feel confusing rather than affirming. Go with the flow and see where life and love leads.
